About this app

WHAT IT DOES

AccuWeather Minute-Cast Overlay reads precipitation data from the AccuWeather Minute-Cast section and displays it in a floating, draggable overlay on top of the page. The overlay shows a timeline of precipitation intensity bars for the next 2 hours, with each bar color-coded by intensity—blue for light, yellow for moderate, orange for heavy, and red for very heavy or extreme precipitation. The current time bar is highlighted with a white outline, making it easy to see what's happening now and what's coming next. The overlay also displays a summary of the maximum intensity, total precipitation in millimeters, and the number of intervals shown. The overlay is fully draggable, resizable, and remembers its position, size, and opacity settings across sessions.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension works on all AccuWeather pages at accuweather.com and its subdomains, specifically on the Minute-Cast section of weather forecast pages. It runs on the current weather page, the hourly forecast view, and any page displaying the Minute-Cast precipitation timeline. The extension operates entirely within your browser and does not access AccuWeather's servers directly—it reads only what is visible on the page you are viewing. It works alongside the free BotGentz extension, which provides the necessary scripting environment.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension, then navigate to accuweather.com and view the Minute-Cast forecast for any location. The extension automatically creates a floating overlay showing the precipitation timeline. Click the extension's icon in your browser toolbar to open the settings panel. Use the "Show Overlay" / "Hide Overlay" button to toggle visibility. The "Refresh" button manually updates the overlay with the latest data. Adjust the overlay transparency using the opacity dropdown (60% to 100%). Change the zoom level using the dropdown—15 minutes (fast) shows a shorter, more detailed timeline, while 60 minutes (slow) shows a longer overview. Drag the overlay by clicking and holding anywhere inside it. Resize it by dragging the bottom-right corner. Close the overlay with the × button.

MULTI-SELECTOR DATA EXTRACTION WITH INTENSITY CLASSIFICATION

Unlike simple scrapers that rely on a single CSS selector, this extension uses a multi-selector extraction engine that tries multiple selector patterns to locate Minute-Cast bars. It searches for common class names like .minute-cast-bar, .precip-bar, and .minutecast-bar, and falls back to scanning container elements for child bars. For each bar, the extension extracts intensity from CSS classes (looking for keywords like light, moderate, heavy, very-heavy, and extreme) and from text content using a keyword-based parser. The intensity classifier uses a priority-ordered mapping to resolve conflicting signals, with class names given higher priority. The extension also extracts numeric precipitation values and time labels, generating synthetic labels when needed. The result is a reliable, intensity-ranked timeline that adapts to AccuWeather's varied page structures and updates.

THE PANEL

The panel supports drag-to-move anywhere on the page. It remembers its position per site, so it stays where you placed it on accuweather.com. Click the panel header to collapse it down to just the minimized bubble, or click the expand handle to show the full panel. The panel can be resized by dragging the bottom-right corner. Press the Escape key to close the expanded panel and return to the minimized state. All panel settings, including position, size, collapsed state, opacity, and zoom level, are saved per site and persist across browsing sessions.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz extension to be installed and active, as it provides the underlying DOM injection and script execution environment. AccuWeather's website changes periodically, and Minute-Cast element structures, class names, and page layouts may be updated. When that happens, the extension may stop detecting precipitation data until an update is released. The extension stores your overlay position, size, opacity, zoom level, and visibility settings locally in your browser's storage using GM_setValue. No data is ever sent to any server, and no personal information is collected. The extension does not read or store your AccuWeather login credentials, email, location, or any identifying information. It only reads visible Minute-Cast precipitation data from the page. You can clear all stored settings at any time by clearing your browser data for accuweather.com.
