About this app
WHAT IT DOES
Alt Text Quality Score Badge helps you improve image accessibility by analyzing and scoring the quality of alt text on every image across any webpage. The script detects images with missing, empty, or generic alt text (like "image", "photo", "picture") and evaluates each image's alt text based on length, descriptiveness, keyword relevance, and context quality. A visible badge shows the overall alt text quality score from 0-100, with color-coded indicators: green for good (75+), yellow for fair (50-74), and red for poor (below 50). Each image gets a detailed breakdown with its score and status. Poor alt text is highlighted directly on the page with a red outline, while fair alt text gets a yellow outline. Suggestions for improving alt text are provided for each image. The dashboard shows the percentage of images with good alt text and generates an accessibility summary report.
WHERE IT RUNS
This script runs on every website (matching all URLs), analyzing alt text across the entire web. It works on any page with images—articles, e-commerce sites, galleries, dashboards, and more—and adapts automatically to each page's content.
HOW TO USE
After installing through the BotGentz extension, the script automatically analyzes alt text on any page you visit. A badge in the configuration panel shows the overall quality score. Open the panel to view the detailed breakdown—each image is listed with its alt text, score, and status. Poor alt text is highlighted on the page with a red outline for easy visual scanning. Use the configuration panel to customize your experience: toggle the quality badge on or off, show or hide the detailed breakdown, enable or disable poor alt text highlighting, enable or disable auto-analysis, adjust the score threshold (0-100), and show or hide the accessibility report. The panel displays real-time statistics including total images, good/fair/poor counts, and the percentage of images with good alt text. Use the "Analyze Images" button to manually re-scan, or "Clear Highlights" to remove all visual markers.
ALT TEXT QUALITY ENGINE WITH CONTEXTUAL SCORING AND GENERIC TERM DETECTION
This script implements an alt text quality analysis engine using a multi-factor scoring algorithm. The engine checks for missing alt attributes, empty alt text, and generic terms like "image", "photo", "picture", "screenshot", and "graphic". It evaluates alt text length (optimal is 5-15 words), descriptiveness (presence of adjectives and nouns), proper capitalization, and punctuation. A bonus is given for descriptive words and contextually relevant terms. Penalties are applied for filename-only alt text (e.g., "image.jpg") and excessive length. The scoring system normalizes to a 0-100 scale with configurable thresholds for good/fair/poor. The highlighting engine applies CSS outlines to images with fair or poor scores, with tooltips showing the alt text. The report generation summarizes accessibility status with actionable recommendations.
THE PANEL
The configuration panel is fully draggable and remembers its position per-site using GM_setValue. It snaps to screen edges when dragged near them, collapses to a compact bubble when minimized, and supports Escape key for quick collapse. All settings—including badge visibility, details display, highlighting, auto-analysis, score threshold, and report visibility—are persisted across sessions.
PLEASE NOTE
This script requires the free BotGentz extension to run. The script runs on all websites and reads image alt text to analyze quality. It does not capture, store, or transmit any personal information. All analysis occurs locally in your browser and never transmitted to external servers. The alt text scoring is based on general accessibility guidelines and may not be perfect for all contexts—use it as a guide, not a definitive assessment. The script highlights images with poor alt text but does not modify the underlying page content. This tool is provided for accessibility and informational purposes only.
