About this app

WHAT IT DOES This userscript adds listing freshness visibility to your Apartments.com search results. It reads property data from the page—extracting unit availability counts and the number of days since each listing was posted—and displays a color-coded availability refresh badge on every listing. The badge uses a four-tier color system: green for recently refreshed (60 days). Each badge shows the days since listed and the number of available units, with total units displayed when available. A summary panel shows average days since listed, total units available across all listings, and the number of properties that need refreshing. Each listing includes a one-click ↗ button to open the property page. This is invaluable for renters, real estate agents, and property managers who need to identify fresh listings, avoid stale properties, and find the best available units. WHERE IT RUNS The script runs on all Apartments.com web application pages at *.apartments.com/*, with automatic detection of search results pages, property listings, and any page displaying apartment information. It works across all Apartments.com interfaces by using multiple selector strategies to find listing cards, unit counts, listed dates, and property links. The script detects dynamic content loading and re-applies availability badges when the search results update. It runs across the entire Apartments.com domain, ensuring coverage whether you're viewing a main search results page, a saved search, or a specific property detail page. HOW TO USE Install the script via the BotGentz extension and navigate to any Apartments.com search results page. Availability refresh badges will appear automatically on every listing. Each badge shows the days since listed and the number of available units with a color-coded background indicating freshness. When unit details are enabled, the badge also shows the total number of units. The summary panel shows average days since listed, total units available, and properties needing refresh. Click the ↗ button next to any listing to open its property page in a new tab. Use the panel controls to customize your experience: toggle availability badges on or off, show or hide the summary panel, enable or disable unit count details, or sort listings by age (oldest first). You can customize the day thresholds for each color category to match your freshness preferences. The "Refresh" button manually rescans the page for updated data. THE MECHANISM - DATE EXTRACTION, AGE CALCULATION, AND FRESHNESS CATEGORIZATION This script identifies listing data by scanning each property card using a cascading selector strategy. It extracts the property name/address, unit availability count from availability elements, and the listed date from date or relative time elements. Days since listed is calculated by parsing relative time strings ("2 days ago," "3 weeks ago," "1 month ago") or by comparing absolute dates to the current date. When no listed date is found, the script searches the card text for pattern matches. The freshness category is determined by comparing the days since listed against user-configurable thresholds. The badge is created as a DOM element with inline styles and inserted into the listing name cell. The summary panel aggregates data across all visible listings and calculates average days, total units, and the number of stale listings. THE PANEL The control panel appears as a floating, draggable element that you can position anywhere on the Apartments.com page. Drag by the header to reposition it, and the position is saved per site using GM_setValue so it stays where you left it across sessions. Release the panel near any edge and it snaps into place, keeping your workspace organized. Click the panel header to collapse it into a small bubble showing only the chart emoji (📊), minimizing distraction while keeping controls accessible. Drag from the bubble to restore the full panel. The panel automatically resizes to fit its content and includes all setting toggles, threshold controls, action buttons, and a freshness legend. Press the Escape key to quickly collapse the panel to its minimized state. The panel remains visible across page navigation within Apartments.com, with availability badges updating automatically as you move between search results. PLEASE NOTE This script requires the free BotGentz extension to function. It is designed for Apartments.com users who need to identify fresh listings and available units. The script reads only visible listing data from the DOM—it does not access Apartments.com's API, your account credentials, or any sensitive information. All settings (badge visibility, summary toggle, unit details toggle, sort toggle, threshold values, and panel position) are stored locally using GM_setValue and never leave your browser. The script does not modify your Apartments.com data—it only reads and visualizes visible listing information. The "days since listed" calculation depends on the listed date being present on the page; if no date is available, the listing may default to the "recent" category. If Apartments.com updates its website structure, the script may need to be updated to match new selectors. The sorting feature reorders DOM elements; if the page uses infinite scroll, sorting may affect only currently loaded listings.
