About this app
WHAT IT DOES
This tool enables you to bridge ETH from Ethereum Mainnet to Optimism, one of the leading Layer 2 scaling solutions built on the OP Stack. It reads your current ETH balance on Ethereum Mainnet, the Optimism bridge contract details, and the current gas price to provide an accurate cost estimate before you commit. The tool then constructs and submits a transaction to the Optimism bridge contract, depositing your specified amount of ETH to the Optimism network, where it becomes available as Optimism-native ETH.
The tool uses the official Optimism bridge (L1StandardBridge) and is specifically designed for Ethereum Mainnet (chain ID 1). It handles the complex bridge mechanics automatically, including the transaction submission and confirmation steps, making it easy to move assets from Ethereum to Optimism without needing to understand the underlying bridge protocol. Optimism offers significantly lower transaction fees than Ethereum Mainnet while maintaining high security through its optimistic rollup architecture.
HOW TO USE
Connect your wallet using the "connect" button. Ensure you are connected to Ethereum Mainnet (chain ID 1) — the tool will display your current chain ID and ETH balance. Enter the amount of ETH you wish to bridge to Optimism in the input field. The tool will display the bridge contract address and estimate the gas cost for the deposit transaction.
Review the bridge summary, then click "bridge ETH → Optimism" to sign and submit the transaction through your wallet. The tool will wait for confirmation and display the transaction details on Etherscan. After the transaction is confirmed on Ethereum Mainnet, your funds will be processed by the Optimism bridge and will appear on Optimism. This process typically takes 10-15 minutes, depending on network congestion and Optimism's dispute window.
TECHNICAL MECHANISM — OPTIMISM BRIDGE DEPOSIT
The tool interacts with the Optimism L1StandardBridge contract, which serves as the entry point for depositing ETH from Ethereum to Optimism. The bridge's depositETH() function accepts ETH as value and handles the underlying mechanics of submitting a transaction to the Optimism inbox contract. The bridge uses a combination of Ethereum layer 1 transactions and Optimism's layer 2 messaging protocol to securely transfer assets between chains.
When you submit a deposit, the bridge contract sends your ETH to the StandardBridge, which then forwards it to the Optimism bridge's inbox contract. The Optimism sequencer processes the inbox transaction, credits your account on L2 with the equivalent amount of Optimism-native ETH, and produces a receipt that is eventually finalized on Ethereum. This process involves a challenge period and requires multiple confirmations, which is why deposits take 10-15 minutes to complete. The bridge uses secure multi-signature validators and fraud proofs to ensure the integrity of the transfer, making it one of the most secure bridging solutions available. The bridge also supports the OP Stack's fault proofs, which allow for trustless withdrawals.
WHAT IT CANNOT SEE
This tool cannot estimate exact gas costs without a live RPC call, and gas prices on Ethereum Mainnet may change between quoting and execution. It cannot guarantee bridge finality times — while typical deposits take 10-15 minutes, network congestion or Optimism sequencer delays may extend this time. The tool cannot verify the bridge contract address is correct beyond the pre-configured mapping, and if the mapping becomes outdated, the transaction could fail or be sent to the wrong contract. It cannot cancel a transaction once submitted, and if the transaction fails due to gas issues or contract errors, you may still pay gas fees. The tool cannot handle bridging from non-Ethereum chains, nor can it bridge tokens other than ETH. It also does not support bridging from Optimism back to Ethereum.
PLEASE NOTE — ETHEREUM MAINNET ONLY
This tool works exclusively on Ethereum Mainnet (chain ID 1). You must be connected to Ethereum Mainnet to use this tool. It does not support bridging from other networks such as Polygon, BNB Smart Chain, or from Optimism back to Ethereum. The tool only bridges native ETH — it does not support ERC-20 tokens or other assets. Always verify that you are connected to the correct network and that the bridge contract address displayed matches the official Optimism bridge address before submitting a transaction. Using the wrong network or an outdated contract address will result in transaction failure and loss of gas fees. Optimism uses the same ETH token as Ethereum, so your bridged ETH will be usable immediately on Optimism apps.
