About this app

WHAT IT DOES

This tool enables you to bridge ETH from Ethereum Mainnet to Base, a secure, low-cost Layer 2 solution built on the OP Stack by Coinbase. It reads your current ETH balance on Ethereum Mainnet, the Base bridge contract details, and the current gas price to provide an accurate cost estimate before you commit. The tool then constructs and submits a transaction to the Base bridge contract, depositing your specified amount of ETH to the Base network, where it becomes available as Base-native ETH.

Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) that offers a secure, low-cost, developer-friendly way for anyone to build decentralized applications on-chain. The bridge uses the official Base bridge infrastructure to securely transfer ETH from Ethereum to Base, making it easy to onboard to the Base ecosystem and access its growing DeFi applications. Base is backed by Coinbase, providing strong institutional reliability and security assurances.

HOW TO USE

Connect your wallet using the "connect" button. Ensure you are connected to Ethereum Mainnet (chain ID 1) — the tool will display your current chain ID and ETH balance. Enter the amount of ETH you wish to bridge to Base in the input field. The tool will display the bridge contract address and estimate the gas cost for the deposit transaction.

Review the bridge summary, then click "bridge ETH to Base" to sign and submit the transaction through your wallet. The tool will wait for confirmation and display the transaction details on Etherscan. After the transaction is confirmed on Ethereum Mainnet, your funds will be processed by the Base bridge and will appear on Base. This process typically takes a few minutes, depending on network congestion.

TECHNICAL MECHANISM — BASE OP STACK BRIDGE DEPOSIT

The tool interacts with the Base L1StandardBridge contract, which serves as the entry point for depositing ETH from Ethereum to Base. The bridge's depositETH() function accepts ETH as value and handles the underlying mechanics of submitting a transaction to the Base inbox contract. The bridge uses a combination of Ethereum layer 1 transactions and Base's OP Stack messaging protocol to securely transfer assets between chains.

When you submit a deposit, the bridge contract sends your ETH to the StandardBridge, which then forwards it to the Base bridge's inbox contract. The Base sequencer processes the inbox transaction, credits your account on L2 with the equivalent amount of Base-native ETH, and produces a receipt. Base is built on the OP Stack, the same technology that powers Optimism, providing a robust and secure foundation for layer 2 scaling. The bridge uses secure multi-signature validators and fraud proofs to ensure the integrity of the transfer, making it one of the most secure bridging solutions available. Base benefits from Coinbase's institutional-grade security practices and deep integration with the broader Ethereum ecosystem.

WHAT IT CANNOT SEE

This tool cannot estimate exact gas costs without a live RPC call, and gas prices on Ethereum Mainnet may change between quoting and execution. It cannot guarantee bridge finality times — while typical deposits take minutes, network congestion may extend this time. The tool cannot verify the bridge contract address is correct beyond the pre-configured mapping, and if the mapping becomes outdated, the transaction could fail or be sent to the wrong contract. It cannot cancel a transaction once submitted, and if the transaction fails due to gas issues or contract errors, you may still pay gas fees. The tool cannot handle bridging from non-Ethereum chains, nor can it bridge tokens other than ETH. It also does not support bridging from Base back to Ethereum or handling of ERC-20 tokens.

PLEASE NOTE — ETHEREUM MAINNET ONLY

This tool works exclusively on Ethereum Mainnet (chain ID 1). You must be connected to Ethereum Mainnet to use this tool. It does not support bridging from other networks such as Polygon, BNB Smart Chain, or from Base back to Ethereum. The tool only bridges native ETH — it does not support ERC-20 tokens or other assets. Always verify that you are connected to the correct network and that the bridge contract address displayed matches the official Base bridge address before submitting a transaction. Using the wrong network or an outdated contract address will result in transaction failure and loss of gas fees. Base uses the same ETH token as Ethereum, so your bridged ETH will be usable immediately on Base applications.
