Bulk File Renamer by Pattern (Downloads Folder List)

WHAT IT DOES

This tool helps you bulk rename files by applying patterns to a list of file names you paste into the panel. You can perform find-and-replace operations (with optional regex), add prefixes and suffixes, convert case (lowercase, uppercase, title case, or sentence case), remove specific characters, replace spaces with custom characters, and add sequential numbering with configurable start, padding, and position. The tool shows a live preview of the changes before you finalize them, and then copies the renamed list to your clipboard for use with external file managers, since the script cannot directly rename files on your filesystem. This is useful for organizing downloads, standardizing naming conventions, or batch-renaming files from any source.

WHERE IT RUNS

The script runs on any website, making it universally accessible. It does not require a separate extension popup, background process, or external server. Everything happens within the page context. You simply paste your file list into the panel and work from there.

HOW TO USE

1. Open the BotGentz panel on any page.

2. Paste your list of file names (one per line) into the "File List" text area.

3. Configure your rename pattern:

- "Find text" and "Replace with" for find/replace (toggle "Use regex" for regex support).

- "Prefix to add" and "Suffix to add" (suffix is added before the file extension).

- "Case conversion" to transform letter casing.

- "Add numbering" to add sequential numbers with configurable start, padding, separator, and position (prefix, suffix, or replace).

4. Click "Preview Rename" to see the changes before applying them.

5. The preview shows original names crossed out and new names in green.

6. Click "Copy Renamed List to Clipboard" to copy the new file names.

7. Click "Copy Original List" to copy the original names (for reference).

8. Click "Copy CSV Mapping" to copy a CSV with original->new mapping for use in spreadsheets.

TECHNICAL MECHANISM

The script operates entirely on string manipulation within the browser. It takes the pasted file list, splits it into lines, and applies rename operations in sequence: find/replace (with optional regex), prefix addition, suffix addition (preserving file extensions), case conversion, character removal, space replacement, and numbering. The numbering function supports configurable start, zero-padding, separator, and position relative to the base name. The preview renders a side-by-side comparison with original names crossed out and new names in green. Since the script cannot access the filesystem, it copies the renamed list to the clipboard using GM_setClipboard, ready to be pasted into a file manager's rename tool or used with external batch rename software.

THE PANEL

The tool appears as a draggable, resizable panel on the side of your screen. You can drag it to any position by clicking and holding the header, resize it by dragging the bottom-right corner, and collapse it to a small bubble when not in use. Press the Escape key to close the panel. The panel remembers its position and size per domain so it stays where you left it on your next visit.

PLEASE NOTE

This script requires the free BotGentz extension to run. It stores your file list, rename patterns, and numbering settings locally in your browser using GM_setValue — no data is sent to any external server. The script cannot directly rename files on your computer — it generates a renamed list that you must apply externally using your operating system's file manager or a dedicated batch rename tool.
