About this app
WHAT IT DOES
This tool allows you to scan any webpage for links to PDF files and bulk download or export them. It detects all hyperlinks pointing to PDF files (based on file extensions, MIME type hints, or query parameters), extracts the URLs and link text, and displays them in a scrollable list with checkboxes and file name previews. You can optionally scan recursively to find PDFs linked from other pages on the same site. Once scanned, you can select which PDFs to keep, then open them all in new tabs for individual download, copy their URLs to the clipboard as a list, or export them as HTML link tags for use in other projects. This is useful for researchers downloading academic papers, professionals collecting reports, or anyone who needs to quickly grab multiple PDF documents from a page.
WHERE IT RUNS
The script runs on any website, making it truly universal. It does not require a separate extension popup, background process, or external server. Everything happens within the page context, interacting with the page's DOM. It works on any webpage that contains links to PDF files.
HOW TO USE
1. Navigate to any webpage containing links to PDF files you want to download.
2. Open the BotGentz panel.
3. Optionally configure settings:
- Set "Recursive depth" (0 = current page only, 1 = also scan linked pages on the same domain).
- Set "Max PDFs to scan" to limit the total number of PDFs found.
4. Click "Scan Page for PDFs" to start.
5. The script will scan the page (and optionally linked pages) and display a list of found PDFs with checkboxes and file name previews.
6. Select or deselect PDFs using the checkboxes.
7. Use the action buttons:
- "Open Selected in New Tabs" to open each PDF in a new tab for downloading.
- "Copy URLs to Clipboard" to copy all selected PDF URLs as a text list.
- "Export as HTML (link tags)" to copy selected PDFs as HTML tags.
- "Deselect All" or "Select All" to quickly change selections.
TECHNICAL MECHANISM
Unlike browser extensions that rely on the downloads API, this script operates entirely on the public DOM. It scans all elements with href attributes and checks if the URL points to a PDF file by checking for .pdf extensions, or common query parameters like "format=pdf" or "filetype=pdf". For each discovered link, it extracts the URL, the link text (or fallback to title attribute or filename), and the filename. The script supports recursive scanning with a configurable depth: it identifies other links on the same domain, navigates to those pages, scans them for additional PDFs, and returns to the original page. The depth is limited to prevent infinite loops. For the list view, it displays each PDF's link text and a truncated filename. The download mechanism uses GM_openInTab to open each PDF URL in a new tab, which triggers the browser's native download behavior — this is the only reliable way to download files without chrome.downloads API. All actions respect the concurrency and rate limiting rules by spacing out tab openings.
THE PANEL
The tool appears as a draggable, resizable panel on the side of your screen. You can drag it to any position by clicking and holding the header, resize it by dragging the bottom-right corner, and collapse it to a small bubble when not in use. Press the Escape key to close the panel. The panel remembers its position and size per domain so it stays where you left it on your next visit.
PLEASE NOTE
This script requires the free BotGentz extension to run. It does not store any personal data — all PDF scanning happens locally and no data is sent to any external server. The script uses GM_openInTab to open PDF URLs in new tabs; this is not a true "download" but the most reliable way to trigger downloads without chrome.downloads API. Recursive scanning will navigate away from the current page and back, which may disrupt browsing — use it carefully. Opening many tabs at once may be slow; consider using "Copy URLs to Clipboard" with an external download manager for large batches. Use responsibly and respect each site's copyright and terms of service.
