Coda Web Doc Version History Overlay automatically scans Coda doc version history pages to extract comprehensive version data including version number, editor name, edit timestamp, edit summary, and version size. The tool displays a floating overlay panel showing a summary of version history with color-coded indicators—the current version is highlighted in green with a star icon. Summary statistics show total versions, current version number, and number of unique editors. Each version displays its version number, editor, timestamp, edit summary, and size when available. Versions are sorted with the current version first, followed by historical versions. Editor statistics show the number of edits per editor, providing insight into document collaboration activity. This provides a complete, organized view of your Coda document's version history.

This extension operates exclusively on coda.io domain pages that contain doc and version history content—specifically pages with "/doc", "/docs", "/version", or "/history" in the URL path, or pages that display document version information. It works alongside the free BotGentz companion extension, which provides the necessary DOM access and page interaction capabilities. The version history overlay runs entirely within your local browser instance and does not communicate with any external servers or APIs. All version data extraction, history tracking, and preference storage are processed and stored on your machine, ensuring your document data and tracking preferences remain private. It supports all modern Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera) and Firefox when paired with the BotGentz bridge.

HOW TO USE

After installing both BotGentz and this version history overlay, navigate to any Coda doc version history page. Within 1-2 seconds, a panel appears in the bottom-right corner displaying a summary with total versions, current version, and unique editors. The "Versions" section lists each version with its version number, editor, timestamp, edit summary, and size. The current version is highlighted with a green border and "Current" badge. The "Editor Stats" section shows how many edits each editor has made. The panel provides a complete, organized view of your document's version history and helps you track changes over time.

VERSION DATA EXTRACTION AND HISTORY ANALYSIS

The version history overlay uses a multi-strategy extraction system to locate and parse version data from Coda pages. It first attempts to find structured version elements using selectors based on the site's typical class naming patterns, including "version-item," "version-row," "history-item," and "revision-item." When these selectors fail due to site updates, the tool falls back to text-based parsing, scanning the page for version-related patterns using pattern matching for version numbers, editor names, date formats, and summary labels. Version numbers are extracted through pattern matching for "version" or "v" labels with numeric values. Editor names are extracted through pattern matching for "by" labels or element selectors. Timestamps are extracted through pattern matching for date formats or "ago" patterns. Edit summaries are extracted through pattern matching for "summary:" or "change:" labels. Version sizes are extracted through pattern matching for storage units (KB, MB, GB, bytes). The current version is identified through keyword detection for "current" or "latest." Editor statistics are calculated by counting versions per editor. All data is presented in a clean, organized panel with color-coded indicators.

THE PANEL

The version history overlay panel is a compact, functional overlay that integrates into the Coda doc page. It can be dragged by clicking and holding the title bar, positioning the panel anywhere on the screen for optimal visibility while you review version history. The panel includes a built-in snap feature that automatically aligns to the nearest screen edge when released within 48 pixels, keeping your workspace organized. Click the collapse arrow in the top-right corner to minimize the panel to a small icon bubble showing a gear emoji, preserving screen space while keeping the tool accessible. The panel is not resizable in this version, maintaining a consistent compact size that works on all screen resolutions. Press the Escape key to instantly hide the panel; press Escape again to restore it. All position, collapse state, and version tracking preferences are saved locally using GM_setValue and persist across browsing sessions.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz extension to function—the version history overlay does not work standalone. Coda occasionally updates its page layouts and version presentation formats, which may temporarily affect version data extraction accuracy. The tool extracts version data from the visible page content; if version history is loaded dynamically after page load, you may need to wait a moment or refresh the page for the panel to populate. Version numbers and editor names are extracted from the page and are for reference only—always verify version history on the official Coda platform. The tool does not store or transmit any data; all version data extraction, history analysis, and settings are processed and saved entirely within your browser.
