Google Calendar Bulk Recurring Event Editor

WHAT IT DOES

This tool helps you efficiently manage recurring events in Google Calendar by allowing you to edit or delete multiple recurring events in bulk. You specify a date range, and the script scans your calendar, identifies all recurring events within that range, and displays them in a scrollable list with event titles, times, and recurrence patterns. You can then select which recurring events to modify and apply changes to their title, description, location, or delete them entirely. For each edit, you can choose the recurrence scope: apply changes to "This event only", "This and following events", or "All events in the series". This is especially useful for cleaning up outdated recurring meetings, updating event details across multiple calendars, or removing recurring events that are no longer relevant.

WHERE IT RUNS

The script runs directly inside the Google Calendar web interface (calendar.google.com). It does not require a separate extension popup, background process, or external server. Everything happens within the page context, interacting with Google Calendar's React-based DOM components.

HOW TO USE

1. Navigate to Google Calendar (calendar.google.com).

2. Open the BotGentz panel.

3. Enter a start date and end date in YYYY-MM-DD format.

4. Select an edit action: "Update Title", "Update Description", "Update Location", or "Delete Event".

5. If updating, enter the new value in the "New value" field.

6. Select the recurrence scope: "This event only", "This and following events", or "All events in the series".

7. Click "Scan & Edit" to start the process.

8. The script will navigate to your calendar, load events within the date range, and filter for recurring events.

9. A list of recurring events appears with checkboxes, titles, patterns, and times.

10. Select the events you want to edit (all are checked by default).

11. Click "Apply to Selected" to begin. The script will open each event, apply the edit with your chosen scope, and save changes.

TECHNICAL MECHANISM

Unlike Google Calendar's built-in editing flow, this script operates purely on the public DOM of the Google Calendar interface. It identifies recurring events by checking for text indicators like "(recurring)", "Repeats", or CSS classes that indicate recurrence. It extracts recurrence patterns from event elements to display alongside the event title. For editing, the script uses event-driven interaction: it clicks an event to open the detail panel, enters edit mode (by clicking the pencil icon or using the More actions menu), locates the appropriate input field (title, description, or location), sets the new value while dispatching input and change events to trigger React state updates, and handles the recurrence scope selection by finding and updating the recurrence dropdown. For deletion, it finds and clicks the Delete button and confirms the action. All actions include retry logic with spacing to account for Google Calendar's asynchronous rendering.

THE PANEL

The tool appears as a draggable, resizable panel on the side of your screen. You can drag it to any position by clicking and holding the header, resize it by dragging the bottom-right corner, and collapse it to a small bubble when not in use. Press the Escape key to close the panel. The panel remembers its position and size per site so it stays where you left it on your next visit.

PLEASE NOTE

This script requires the free BotGentz extension to run. It does not store any personal data except for a list of ignored event IDs, which is saved locally in your browser using GM_setValue. No data is sent to any external server. Google Calendar frequently updates its website, which may break the script. If you encounter issues, check for updates or contact support. Edits to recurring events are permanent; use caution when applying changes to "All events in the series".
