WHAT IT DOES

Google Meet Background Blur Toggle Reminder scans Google Meet pages for the background blur and effects button, then adds a persistent floating reminder badge that alerts you when background blur is turned off. The script monitors the state of the background effects toggle and displays a small floating indicator showing the current blur status—green for blurred, amber for partial, and red with pulsing for off. When you join a meeting without blur enabled, a subtle pulsing reminder appears to prompt you to enable it. A one-click button lets you toggle blur on or off by automatically clicking the background effects button and selecting the blur option, saving you from navigating through menus.

This script operates as a userscript within the BotGentz extension on Google Meet pages and any other page where Google Meet is embedded. It functions on any modern browser that supports the BotGentz extension, including Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, and Opera. The script runs entirely client-side, monitoring the page and managing the reminder locally without sending any data to external servers.

HOW TO USE

After installation, the script automatically detects when you're in a Google Meet meeting and checks the background blur status. A floating badge appears showing the current status—click it to see options. If blur is off, the badge pulses gently to remind you. Click the "Toggle Blur" button on the badge to enable or disable background blur with one click. The script can also be set to auto-enable blur when you join a meeting. Open the panel to customize the reminder style (badge, banner, or both), adjust the reminder position, set the reminder duration, toggle auto-show on meeting join, or enable auto-enable blur. The script works on all Google Meet interfaces and updates in real-time.

THE MECHANISM THAT MAKES IT WORK

The script uses a multi-strategy detection system to identify Google Meet meetings and blur status. It detects meetings by scanning the URL for meet.google.com, searching for meeting-specific text indicators (participants, mute, video, chat), and looking for DOM elements with meet-related attributes. Blur status detection checks multiple sources: aria-labels on blur buttons, data-tooltip attributes, video element filter styles, effect panel selection states, and aria-pressed states on toggle buttons. The toggle function attempts to click the blur button directly, and if not found, clicks the effects button then selects the blur option from the panel. The script uses MutationObserver-ready polling with setInterval to monitor for status changes and meeting state transitions, updating the badge in real-time without interfering with the page's normal operation.

THE PANEL

The script panel is built using BotGentz's BGPanel framework and provides comprehensive control over the blur reminder's behavior. The panel opens as a floating overlay that can be dragged anywhere on your screen, with a clean dark theme matching the tool's aesthetic. It includes dropdown menus for reminder style (badge, banner, or both), blur intensity (light, medium, heavy), reminder duration (5-60 seconds), and reminder position (top-left, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right). Toggle switches enable or disable the reminder, show the status indicator, auto-show on meeting join, and auto-enable blur. Action buttons allow you to check status, toggle blur, save settings, or reset all settings to defaults. The panel collapses to a small icon when not in use and expands when clicked, remaining accessible but unobtrusive. Press the Escape key at any time to close the panel.

This script requires the free BotGentz extension to be installed and activated in your browser. The extension is available from the official BotGentz website. The script automatically detects Google Meet meetings and blur status—no manual activation is needed. The blur toggle feature attempts to click the appropriate buttons in the Google Meet interface and may not work if Google changes the UI layout. The auto-enable feature will attempt to turn on blur when you join a meeting, but may fail if the page hasn't fully loaded. The script does not access Google's APIs or collect any user data; all processing is performed locally in your browser. The reminder will not appear if you're not in a Google Meet meeting.
