About this app

WHAT IT DOES

IRS Web Refund Status Tracker reads refund status and filing details from the IRS Where's My Refund page and displays a floating refund status tracker showing your current refund status and estimated deposit date. The badge shows the refund status—Approved (green), Sent (yellow), Processing (blue), or Returned (gray)—along with the refund amount and estimated deposit date. The extension tracks refund status changes over time, storing each status change with a timestamp per tax year. When your refund status changes, a desktop notification is triggered. The panel displays your current tax year's refund history and status changes over time.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension works on all IRS pages at irs.gov and its subdomains, specifically on the Where's My Refund page and refund status pages. It runs on the refund tracker page, the filing dashboard, and any page displaying refund information. The extension operates entirely within your browser and does not access IRS servers directly—it reads only what is visible on the page you are viewing. It works alongside the free BotGentz extension, which provides the necessary scripting environment.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension, then navigate to irs.gov and open the Where's My Refund page. The extension automatically creates a floating refund status tracker badge on the page. Click the extension's icon in your browser toolbar to open the settings panel. Use the "Show Overlay" / "Hide Overlay" button to toggle the badge visibility. The badge shows your refund status, amount, and estimated deposit date. Use the "Refresh" button to manually update the badge with the latest refund information. The "Show refund amount" toggle controls whether the amount appears. The "Status change notifications" toggle controls desktop notifications when your refund status changes. Adjust the overlay transparency using the opacity dropdown (70%, 82%, 92%, or 100%). Drag the badge by clicking and holding anywhere inside it. Resize it by dragging the bottom-right corner. Close the badge with the × button.

REFUND STATUS EXTRACTION WITH PER-YEAR HISTORY AND NOTIFICATION

Unlike simple status display tools, this extension uses a multi-selector extraction engine to find refund status, amount, and estimated date from the IRS's varying page structures. It searches for status using multiple selector patterns (.refund-status, .status-text, .refund-status-text) and falls back to text parsing with keyword detection (approved, accepted, sent, issued, deposited, pending, processing, received, returned, rejected). Refund amounts are extracted from amount selectors using number parsing. Estimated deposit dates are parsed from date-related elements using date parsing that handles multiple formats. Per-tax-year refund history is stored as a key-value object where keys are tax year strings and values are arrays of status records with timestamps, limited to 20 entries per year. Status change notifications trigger when the refund status changes, with a one-hour cooldown.

THE PANEL

The panel supports drag-to-move anywhere on the page. It remembers its position per site, so it stays where you placed it on irs.gov. Click the panel header to collapse it down to just the minimized bubble, or click the expand handle to show the full panel. The panel can be resized by dragging the bottom-right corner. Press the Escape key to close the expanded panel and return to the minimized state. All panel settings, including position, size, collapsed state, opacity, amount visibility, notification preference, and per-year refund history, are saved per site and persist across browsing sessions.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz extension to be installed and active, as it provides the underlying DOM injection and script execution environment. The IRS website changes periodically, and refund element structures, class names, and page layouts may be updated. When that happens, the extension may stop detecting refund data until an update is released. The extension stores your overlay position, size, opacity, visibility, amount preference, notification preference, and per-year refund history locally in your browser's storage using GM_setValue. Refund history is stored as a key-value object where keys are tax year strings and values are arrays of status records. The refund status displayed is read from the page—the extension does not access IRS internal data. Always verify with the IRS directly for the most accurate refund information. No data is ever sent to any server, and no personal information is collected. You can clear all stored settings at any time by clearing your browser data for irs.gov.
