About this app

WHAT IT DOES This userscript adds Letgo-style distance sorting and visibility to your OfferUp browsing experience. It reads listing entries from the page—extracting location and distance information—and adds a distance badge to every listing showing the approximate distance in miles or kilometers with a color-coded indicator: green for very close (25 miles). A "Sort by Distance" button reorders all listings from nearest to farthest, making it easy to find items near you. A summary panel shows the total listings, listings with distance data, listings within 10 miles, and the average distance. This is invaluable for local buyers, thrifters, and bargain hunters who want to prioritize nearby items, save on shipping or travel time, and find the best deals closest to home. WHERE IT RUNS The script runs on all OfferUp web application pages at *.offerup.com/*, with automatic detection of search results pages, category pages, and any page displaying listing cards. It works across all OfferUp interfaces by using multiple selector strategies to find listing items, location text, distance information, and listing links. The script detects dynamic content loading and re-applies distance badges and sort controls when the listing list updates. It runs across the entire OfferUp domain, ensuring coverage whether you're viewing the main feed, a specific category, or search results. HOW TO USE Install the script via the BotGentz extension and navigate to any OfferUp search results or category page. Distance badges will appear automatically on every listing with available location data. The distance sort control appears above your listing results with a "Sort by Distance" button—click it to reorder listings from nearest to farthest. The summary panel shows total listings, listings with distance data, listings within 10 miles, and average distance. Use the panel controls to customize your experience: toggle distance badges on or off, enable or disable distance sorting, show or hide the summary panel, choose your preferred distance unit (miles or kilometers), or enable auto-sort on page load. The "Refresh" button manually rescans the page for updated listing data, and the "Copy summary" button exports the distance summary to your clipboard. THE MECHANISM - LOCATION EXTRACTION, DISTANCE PARSING, AND DOM REORDERING This script identifies distance information by scanning each listing card for location elements (.location, .listing-location, .item-location, .distance) and parsing distance strings like "3.5 mi," "5 miles," "2 km," or "within 5 miles." Distances are converted to the user's preferred unit (miles or kilometers). When a listing doesn't have an explicit distance but has a location name, it's marked as unknown distance. The sort control uses DOM manipulation to reorder listing elements: listings with distance data are sorted by distance ascending and appended to the container first, followed by listings without distance data. The badge is created as a DOM element with inline styles and inserted into the listing title cell. The summary panel calculates average distance and counts listings within the 10-mile threshold. THE PANEL The control panel appears as a floating, draggable element that you can position anywhere on the OfferUp page. Drag by the header to reposition it, and the position is saved per site using GM_setValue so it stays where you left it across sessions. Release the panel near any edge and it snaps into place, keeping your workspace organized. Click the panel header to collapse it into a small bubble showing only the location emoji (📍), minimizing distraction while keeping controls accessible. Drag from the bubble to restore the full panel. The panel automatically resizes to fit its content and includes all setting toggles, unit controls, action buttons, and a distance legend. Press the Escape key to quickly collapse the panel to its minimized state. The panel remains visible across page navigation within OfferUp, with distance badges updating automatically as you move between categories and search results. PLEASE NOTE This script requires the free BotGentz extension to function. It is designed for OfferUp users who want to find listings near their location. The script reads only visible listing data from the DOM—it does not access OfferUp's API, your account credentials, or any sensitive information. All settings (badge visibility, sort toggle, summary toggle, unit preference, auto-sort, and panel position) are stored locally using GM_setValue and never leave your browser. The script does not modify your OfferUp data—it only reads and visualizes visible listing information. Distance extraction depends on the location text visible on the page; if a listing does not display distance information, it will be marked as unknown. The sorting feature reorders DOM elements; if the page uses infinite scroll, sorting may affect only currently loaded listings. Distance units can be toggled between miles and kilometers at any time.
