About this app

WHAT IT DOES

Pandora Web Station Variety Slider reads the current station variety setting from the Pandora web player and provides a clean, visual slider control to adjust it. The slider lets you control the balance between "crowd" (familiar, popular songs) and "artist discovery" (new and emerging music) for the current station. As you move the slider, the extension automatically applies the change to Pandora's hidden variety controls. The slider value is saved per station, so when you return to a station, it remembers your preferred setting. The panel displays the current station name, the current variety percentage, and the last time the setting was adjusted. Four preset buttons—Crowd, Balanced, Discovery, and Max Discovery—let you jump to common settings with a single click.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension works on all Pandora web pages at pandora.com and its subdomains, specifically on the web player where stations are playing. It runs on the main playback page, the station view, and any page where the variety control is present. The extension operates entirely within your browser and does not access Pandora's servers directly—it reads only what is visible on the page you are viewing. It works alongside the free BotGentz extension, which provides the necessary scripting environment.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension, then navigate to pandora.com and start playing any station. Click the extension's icon in your browser toolbar to open the panel. The panel shows the current station name and the current variety level. Use the slider to adjust the variety—drag left for more familiar/crowd music or right for more artist discovery. The current percentage updates in real time. Click any preset button (Crowd, Balanced, Discovery, Max Discovery) to instantly set the variety to that level. The "Refresh Station" button updates the panel with the latest station information. The extension remembers your setting for each station, so when you switch stations, the slider automatically reflects your saved preference.

EVENT-DRIVEN CONTROL WITH MULTI-METHOD ACTIVATION

Unlike simple value setting that fails when Pandora's UI updates, this extension uses an event-driven control strategy with multiple activation methods. It first attempts to locate and manipulate Pandora's native variety control using a prioritized selector chain. If the control is a range input, it sets the value and dispatches both "input" and "change" events to satisfy React's event system. If the control is a click-based element, it calculates the click position based on the desired percentage and simulates a precise click using MouseEvent. As a final fallback, the extension scans for any element containing variety-related text and attempts to click it. This multi-method approach, combined with per-station persistence, ensures reliable control even when Pandora updates its interface, and the saved values carry over across sessions without requiring manual reconfiguration.

THE PANEL

The panel supports drag-to-move anywhere on the page. It remembers its position per site, so it stays where you placed it on pandora.com. Click the panel header to collapse it down to just the minimized bubble, or click the expand handle to show the full panel. The panel can be resized by dragging the bottom-right corner. Press the Escape key to close the expanded panel and return to the minimized state. All panel settings, including position, size, collapsed state, and per-station variety values, are saved per site and persist across browsing sessions.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz extension to be installed and active, as it provides the underlying DOM injection and script execution environment. Pandora's website changes periodically, and variety control elements, class names, and page layouts may be updated. When that happens, the extension may stop controlling the variety setting until an update is released. The extension stores variety values per station locally in your browser's storage using GM_setValue, with a separate key for each station. No data is ever sent to any server, and no personal information is collected. The extension does not read or store your Pandora login credentials, email, or any identifying information. It only reads the current station name and variety setting from the page. You can clear all stored settings at any time by clearing your browser data for pandora.com.
