WHAT IT DOES

Thumbtack Quote Comparison Overlay transforms the way you evaluate service professionals by presenting all quotes in a clean, side-by-side comparison view. The script extracts comprehensive quote data from Thumbtack pages including pro names, prices, ratings, review counts, response times, categories, and locations. It then organizes this information into a sortable, filterable overlay panel that makes it easy to identify the best value. Visual highlight markers automatically identify the lowest price, highest rating, and fastest response time among all quotes on the page. You can mark favorite quotes with a single click and export comparison data to CSV for offline analysis or record keeping.

WHERE IT RUNS

This script operates on all Thumbtack pages that display pro quotes, including project quote pages, pro search results, service category listings, and individual pro profiles that show pricing information. It works with Thumbtack's dynamic content loading, automatically detecting when new quotes are loaded via scrolling or pagination and updating the comparison panel accordingly.

HOW TO USE

After installing through the BotGentz extension, navigate to any Thumbtack page with quotes or pro listings. The script automatically scans the page and populates the comparison panel with extracted data. Use the sort dropdown to organize quotes by price (low-to-high or high-to-low), rating, review count, or response time. Apply filters to narrow down results by price range or minimum rating. Click the star icon on any quote card to add it to your favorites list—favorites are persisted across sessions. Use the "Export Comparison Data" button to copy all quote data to your clipboard as CSV for use in spreadsheets or other tools.

ADAPTIVE QUOTE EXTRACTION ENGINE

This script employs a cascading extraction strategy that handles Thumbtack's varied page layouts and frequent UI updates. The engine first attempts to locate quote data using specific, high-precision CSS selectors that target known quote card structures. If that fails or returns limited results, it falls back to broader structural selectors that identify pro cards and listing items. As a final layer, the script parses JSON-LD structured data embedded in the page, which contains canonical quote information in a machine-readable format. This multi-layered approach ensures reliable extraction across different Thumbtack pages—including project quote lists, search results, and pro directory pages—while the structured data fallback provides accurate timestamps and pricing even when visual layouts change.

THE PANEL

The configuration panel is fully draggable and remembers its position per-site using GM_setValue. It snaps to screen edges when dragged near them, collapses to a compact bubble when minimized, and supports Escape key for quick collapse. The comparison panel is a separate component within the main panel, displaying quote cards in a responsive grid layout that adapts to the number of quotes found. All settings—including sort preference, highlight visibility, favorite-only mode, auto-scan behavior, and filter values—are persisted across sessions.

Thumbtack periodically updates their page structures, which may affect extraction capabilities—we actively maintain the script and release updates to ensure compatibility. The script reads only publicly visible quote data displayed on the page and does not access hidden fields, passwords, or sensitive information. All extracted data stays local in your browser; favorites and settings are stored locally and never transmitted to external servers.
