About this app

WHAT IT DOES

This tool enables you to transfer tokens between different EVM-compatible blockchains using the Wormhole protocol, a decentralized cross-chain messaging network. It reads your token balance on the source chain, checks your allowance for the Wormhole bridge contract, and handles the approval process automatically if needed. The tool then submits a transfer transaction to the Wormhole bridge, locking your tokens on the source chain and minting wrapped tokens on the destination chain.

The tool supports multiple EVM chains including Ethereum Mainnet, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Optimism. It allows you to specify both the source token address and the destination token address, giving you full control over which tokens you bridge and where they go. This flexibility makes it suitable for a wide range of cross-chain use cases, from simple asset transfers to more complex DeFi strategies.

HOW TO USE

Connect your wallet using the "connect" button. The tool will display your current chain ID, wallet address, and token balance once you enter a token address. Enter the token address you wish to bridge from the source chain, the destination chain ID (e.g., 1 for Ethereum, 56 for BSC, 137 for Polygon), the destination token address, and the amount you wish to bridge.

Review the bridge summary showing the token amount and destination chain, then click "bridge via Wormhole" to start the process. If your allowance is insufficient, the tool will automatically request approval for the bridge to spend your tokens. After approval is confirmed, it will submit the transfer transaction. The tool will wait for confirmation and display the transaction details on the appropriate block explorer. After the transaction is confirmed on the source chain, your funds will be processed by the Wormhole guardians and will appear on the destination chain. This process typically takes 5-15 minutes, depending on Wormhole's guardian consensus and network congestion.

TECHNICAL MECHANISM — WORMHOLE CROSS-CHAIN TRANSFER

The tool interacts with the Wormhole Token Bridge contract, which implements the transferTokens() function. This function takes the token address, amount, recipient chain ID, recipient address (as a 32-byte bytes32 value), arbiter fee, and a nonce. The bridge contract locks the tokens on the source chain and emits a message containing the transfer details. This message is observed by Wormhole's guardian network, a decentralized set of validators that run the Wormhole software.

The guardians reach consensus on the message and sign it, producing a Verifiable Action Approval (VAA) that proves the transfer occurred. Once the VAA is generated, it can be submitted to the destination chain's Wormhole bridge contract, which verifies the guardians' signatures and mints the corresponding wrapped tokens. The tool handles the source-side transaction only; the destination-side redemption typically requires a separate transaction, which can be performed using the destination chain's Wormhole contract. The guardians' multi-sig consensus mechanism ensures the security of the bridge, as multiple independent validators must agree on the validity of each message before it is accepted.

WHAT IT CANNOT SEE

This tool cannot estimate exact gas costs without a live RPC call, and gas prices on the source chain may change between quoting and execution. It cannot guarantee bridge finality times — while typical transfers take 5-15 minutes, network congestion or guardian delays may extend this time. The tool cannot verify the bridge contract address is correct beyond the pre-configured mapping, and if the mapping becomes outdated, the transaction could fail or be sent to the wrong contract. It cannot cancel a transaction once submitted, and if the transaction fails due to gas issues, approval errors, or contract issues, you may still pay gas fees. The tool cannot handle bridging from or to non-EVM chains, such as Solana, Terra, or other non-EVM ecosystems. It also cannot bridge tokens not supported by the Wormhole bridge, and it cannot ensure the destination token address is correct for the target chain.

PLEASE NOTE — EVM CHAINS ONLY

This tool works exclusively with EVM-compatible chains supported by Wormhole, including Ethereum Mainnet, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Optimism. It does not support bridging to or from non-EVM chains. Always verify that the source and destination token addresses are correct for their respective chains. Wormhole tokens on the destination chain are often wrapped versions of the original token — ensure you are using the correct wrapped token address for your intended use case. Using the wrong token address may result in permanent loss of funds. The destination-side redemption must be completed separately through the Wormhole bridge on the target chain.
