About this app

WHAT IT DOES

Bulk Bookmark Tag Assigner solves a common organization problem: manually tagging bookmarks one at a time is tedious and time-consuming. Most bookmark managers lack a built-in way to select multiple bookmarks and assign tags to all of them in a single action. This tool reads all bookmarks displayed on your current page, extracts their titles, URLs, existing tags, and folder locations, and presents them in a scrollable checklist. You select the bookmarks you want to tag, enter one or more tags separated by commas, and click "Assign Tags." The tool then updates each selected bookmark, adding the new tags while preserving all existing ones. A tag cloud displays all detected tags with their frequency, and clicking a tag adds it to the input field for quick assignment. The tool also auto-suggests tags based on URL domains to help you organize more efficiently.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension panel runs directly inside your browser as an overlay on supported sites that display bookmarks, including Google Bookmarks, GitHub, Notion, Atlassian, ClickUp, and Monday.com. It works wherever bookmark lists are rendered on the page, detecting bookmark elements, their associated tags, and folder structures automatically. The tool requires no additional API keys or permissions beyond the BotGentz extension.

HOW TO USE

After installing the BotGentz extension and activating Bulk Bookmark Tag Assigner, navigate to any page where your bookmarks are displayed. Click the extension icon in your browser toolbar to open the panel. The tool automatically detects all bookmarks displayed on the current page, along with any existing tags. Each bookmark appears with its title, current tags, and folder location alongside a checkbox. Use the "Select All" toggle or individually check bookmarks. Next, enter the tags you want to assign in the text field, separated by commas (e.g., "work, reading, reference"). The input field supports auto-completion from existing tags — type a partial tag and press comma or space to complete. You can also click any tag in the tag cloud to add it to the input field. Finally, click "Assign Tags." The tool processes each selected bookmark with a 300ms delay between updates, adding the new tags while preserving existing ones. After completion, the tag cloud updates to reflect the new tag frequencies.

TECHNICAL OPERATION — DOM-Based Tag Extraction and Update

Unlike browser extensions that require the bookmarks API, this tool operates through direct DOM traversal and manipulation. It scans the page for elements containing bookmark data, extracting tags from attributes like `data-tag`, elements with class names like `.tag`, `.label`, or `.bookmark-tag`, and from `data-tags` attributes containing comma-separated values. When assigning tags, the tool locates or creates a tag container element within each bookmark's DOM node, then appends new tag elements with the appropriate class names and data attributes. The tool deduplicates tags to prevent duplicates within a single bookmark and preserves the existing tag structure. The tag cloud is generated by aggregating all tags across detected bookmarks, counting frequencies, and rendering them as clickable elements with font sizes proportional to their frequency. Auto-completion works by matching partial input against the existing tag list on each keystroke, suggesting the first matching tag when a unique match is found.

THE PANEL

The extension panel is fully draggable and remembers its position per site session. It snaps to the nearest edge of the browser viewport when dragged within 50 pixels of any side. You can collapse the panel to a compact title bar using the minimize button, preserving your selection state. The panel resizes vertically by dragging the bottom edge. Press the Escape key to close the panel instantly without losing your bookmark selection. The tag cloud displays all detected tags with proportional font sizes for quick visual scanning and easy tag selection.

PLEASE NOTE

This tool requires the free BotGentz browser extension to function. The script does not use the browser's bookmarks API and cannot access bookmarks stored outside the currently visible page. It only sees bookmarks that are rendered in the page's DOM. The tool does not store, transmit, or log any bookmark data, URLs, or tag information. All operations occur locally in your browser session. Sites may update their DOM structure over time, which could affect bookmark and tag detection; we monitor and release compatibility updates as needed. Always review your tag selections before confirming bulk assignments, as adding tags can affect bookmark organization and searchability.
