WHAT IT DOES

Chat Widget Hider automatically detects and removes chat widgets, live chat bubbles, messenger popups, and customer support floating buttons from web pages. The tool scans the page for common chat widget patterns—looking for chat-related IDs, classes, and text content, as well as floating elements positioned near the corners of the viewport. When a chat widget is detected, it's hidden from view, giving you a cleaner browsing experience without distractions. You can manually hide or show widgets at any time, whitelist specific sites to exclude them from automatic hiding, and adjust the detection delay. The extension shows a count of hidden widgets and displays a notification when widgets are hidden.

WHERE IT RUNS

The extension runs entirely within your browser's local environment using the BotGentz framework. All widget detection, DOM analysis, and hiding operations occur on your machine without any network requests. No page content, browsing data, or user activity is ever transmitted, uploaded, or stored externally. The tool works on any website and respects the browser's security boundaries, operating within the isolated extension sandbox.

HOW TO USE

Click the extension toolbar icon to open the Chat Widget Hider panel. The extension works automatically—when enabled, it detects and hides chat widgets on page load. Use the "Hide All Widgets" button to manually hide any visible chat widgets on the current page. Use "Show All Widgets" to restore hidden widgets. Use "Toggle Hiding" to switch between hiding and showing widgets. Toggle "Enable extension" to turn the tool on or off. Toggle "Auto hide on page load" to control whether widgets are hidden automatically. Toggle "Show notifications" to receive a flash message when widgets are hidden. Add domains to the whitelist to prevent automatic hiding on specific sites. Adjust the "Hide Delay" setting to control how long the tool waits after page load before attempting to hide widgets. The panel shows the current status and the number of hidden widgets.

THE WIDGET DETECTION ENGINE — WHY IT WORKS

Most chat widget blockers rely on fixed lists of selectors that quickly become outdated as websites change their widget implementations. This tool uses a multi-layered detection strategy that goes beyond simple selector matching. First, it checks a comprehensive list of common chat-related IDs and classes (chat, messenger, livechat, support, intercom, zendesk, tawk, drift, olark, etc.). Second, it analyzes element positioning—chat widgets are typically fixed or absolute-positioned elements in the corners of the viewport (bottom-right is most common). Third, it checks element size—chat widgets are often small, circular, or compact elements (30-80px). Fourth, it scans the text content of elements for chat-related keywords and looks for close/minimize buttons. The tool combines these signals to identify chat widgets with high confidence, handling diverse implementations from different providers like Intercom, Zendesk, Tawk.to, Drift, and Olark. The hide delay allows widgets to fully load before detection, ensuring reliable results.

THE PANEL

The Chat Widget Hider panel is fully draggable by its title bar and remembers its position on screen per website. It snaps to the edges of your browser window for clean alignment. Collapse the panel to a compact icon strip using the minimize button, restoring it with a single click. Resize the panel by dragging any edge or corner; the controls and options adjust proportionally. Press the Escape key to close the panel instantly. The panel maintains independent state for each browser tab, allowing you to control widget hiding in multiple tabs simultaneously.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz extension framework to be installed and enabled. The tool hides chat widgets visually but does not interact with the underlying scripts—it simply removes the widget from view. Some websites may use the chat widget for customer support; whitelist sites where you want to keep the widget available. All widget data is processed locally and is never transmitted, logged, or shared. The extension requests no network permissions and functions entirely offline. The source code is fully auditable and available for review.
