About this app
WHAT IT DOES
Consensus Client Diversity Checker provides comprehensive client diversity analysis for Proof-of-Stake consensus networks, enabling validators, staking operators, and network participants to assess and improve client diversity. It retrieves on-chain validator registry data via eth_getCode and fetches verified source code and ABI from block explorer APIs. The tool analyzes validator client metadata and version information, computes client distribution statistics and network-wide diversity metrics, and checks compliance with diversity recommendations. It processes client data including client names, validator counts, version information, and adoption rates. The output includes a diversity status (Diverse, Moderate, or Concentrated), total validator count, number of unique clients, a detailed client matrix showing each client's validator count, share percentage, version, and diversity status, and actionable recommendations for improving client diversity—such as migrating validators to underrepresented clients, upgrading to newer client versions, or implementing diversity-aware validator selection strategies. This enables validators and network participants to assess client diversity, identify concentration risks, and take action to improve network resilience against client bugs.
HOW TO USE
Connect your BGWallet to the target EVM chain. Paste the address of the validator registry contract you wish to analyze. Provide client metadata as a JSON object containing client names as keys with count and version fields. Optionally supply a GitHub repository URL to pull client implementation details and diversity specifications for additional context. The tool fetches the validator registry's bytecode and state, analyzes the client distribution, and generates a comprehensive diversity report. Review the diversity status, total validators, unique clients, client matrix, and recommendations. Use the results to assess network client diversity, identify concentration risks, and plan diversity improvements.
CONSENSUS CLIENT DIVERSITY ANALYSIS AND RISK ASSESSMENT ENGINE
The real technical mechanism is the consensus client diversity analysis and risk assessment engine that combines validator registry analysis with client distribution metrics. The tool first retrieves the validator registry's bytecode and analyzes the validator metadata—identifying how client information is stored and associated with validators. It then processes the client metadata to compute distribution statistics: the percentage of validators running each client, the number of unique clients, and the concentration level. The diversity status is determined by the maximum client share: Diverse (50% max share). The engine also checks for version diversity, flagging clients that are running outdated versions. The risk assessment identifies concentration risks—if a single client has a large share, a bug in that client could cause significant network disruption. The recommendations are generated based on the identified risks: if concentration is high, the tool recommends migrating validators to underrepresented clients; if version diversity is poor, it recommends upgrading to newer versions. This approach provides validators and network participants with a practical, data-driven way to assess and improve client diversity, enhancing network resilience against client bugs and security vulnerabilities.
WHAT IT CANNOT SEE
This tool cannot generate a complete client diversity check without access to validator registry or client metadata. It is limited by your RPC provider's rate limits for data retrieval, which may delay analysis on congested networks. It cannot determine if client diversity meets network requirements without executing diversity calculations—the tool provides assessments based on available data, not official network requirements. The detection relies on the completeness of the ABI and source code verification; unverified contracts or incomplete verification data will produce incomplete or inaccurate results. Detection is based on bytecode pattern matching and may miss indirect or obfuscated client metadata, such as client data stored in external contracts or off-chain. The tool cannot assess runtime behavior or security implications of client diversity, such as how client diversity affects network performance or security under different conditions. It may produce false positives for data that appears similar to client metadata but is used for other purposes. The tool does not execute the contract to validate diversity, so it cannot confirm that the client metadata accurately reflects the actual client distribution. It cannot account for network-specific client implementation differences or future upgrades—different networks may have different client ecosystems, versioning schemes, or diversity requirements. Client diversity mechanics may vary across networks and change over time as clients evolve.
PLEASE NOTE
This tool works exclusively with EVM-compatible chains that support Proof-of-Stake consensus and validator registries. It requires active internet connectivity to access block explorer APIs and RPC endpoints. Some block explorers may require API keys for high-volume data retrieval. The tool is read-only and does not execute any transactions—it only produces diversity assessments. Client diversity is critical to network security and resilience; always verify diversity results against actual client distribution data and test on testnet before making operational changes. Different networks may have different diversity thresholds and client ecosystems.
