This extension operates exclusively on creditkarma.com domain pages that contain credit score content—specifically pages with "/credit-score", "/score", or "/dashboard" in the URL path, or pages that display credit score details and factors. It works alongside the free BotGentz companion extension, which provides the necessary DOM access and page interaction capabilities. The score change explainer runs entirely within your local browser instance and does not communicate with any external servers or APIs. All score data extraction, factor analysis, and preference storage occurs on your machine, ensuring your credit data and analysis preferences remain private. It supports all modern Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera) and Firefox when paired with the BotGentz bridge.

HOW TO USE

After installing both BotGentz and this score change explainer, navigate to any Credit Karma credit score page. Within 1-2 seconds, a panel appears in the bottom-right corner displaying your current score, score change with color-coded indicator, and previous score. The "Key Factors" section lists the factors that influenced your score change, sorted by impact magnitude, with descriptions and point changes. Factor categories are shown as tags. The "Timeline" section summarizes your current score, previous score, change, and last updated date. The panel provides a complete explanation of what's driving your credit score changes.

CREDIT SCORE DATA EXTRACTION AND FACTOR ANALYSIS

The score change explainer uses a multi-strategy extraction system to locate and parse credit score data from Credit Karma pages. It first attempts to find structured score elements using selectors based on the site's typical class naming patterns, including "credit-score," "score-details," and factor-related elements. When these selectors fail due to site updates, the tool falls back to text-based parsing, scanning the page for score-related patterns using pattern matching for terms like "credit score," "score change," "increase," "decrease," and "points." The current score is extracted through pattern matching for three-digit numbers near "credit score" or "score" labels. Score change is extracted through pattern matching for "increase," "decrease," or "change" labels with point values. Score factors are extracted from factor containers or by scanning for text containing "impact," "influence," or "factor" with point values. Factors are categorized using keyword detection for Payment History, Credit Utilization, Credit Age, Credit Mix, and Inquiries. Factors are sorted by impact magnitude to highlight the most influential changes.

THE PANEL

The score change explainer panel is a compact, functional overlay that integrates into the Credit Karma score page. It can be dragged by clicking and holding the title bar, positioning the panel anywhere on the screen for optimal visibility while you review your score. The panel includes a built-in snap feature that automatically aligns to the nearest screen edge when released within 48 pixels, keeping your workspace organized. Click the collapse arrow in the top-right corner to minimize the panel to a small icon bubble showing a gear emoji, preserving screen space while keeping the tool accessible. The panel is not resizable in this version, maintaining a consistent compact size that works on all screen resolutions. Press the Escape key to instantly hide the panel; press Escape again to restore it. All position, collapse state, and score tracking preferences are saved locally using GM_setValue and persist across browsing sessions.

This extension requires the free BotGentz extension to function—the score change explainer does not work standalone. Credit Karma occasionally updates its page layouts and score presentation formats, which may temporarily affect score data extraction accuracy. The tool extracts score data from the visible page content; if score data is loaded dynamically after page load, you may need to wait a moment or refresh the page for the panel to populate.
