WHAT IT DOES

Crypto Tax Calculator is a read-only tool that provides simulated tax calculations based on on-chain transaction history. It examines transaction history, timestamps, values, token types, gas fees, cost basis (simulated), asset acquisition dates, sale/disposal events, token transfer events, realized gains and losses, holding periods, transaction volumes, fee structures, airdrop receipts, mining and staking rewards, LP rewards, and vesting unlocks. The tool aggregates this data to produce a tax summary showing acquisitions, disposals, net gain or loss, total realized gains and losses, taxable events, and a breakdown of short-term versus long-term gains, along with sample transaction details.

HOW TO USE

Enter any wallet address and click Calculate Tax. The tool scans transaction history to identify incoming and outgoing transfers, then generates a simulated tax report using sample transactions with estimated values and cost basis. Results include the wallet address, current ETH balance, transaction count, tax summary (acquisitions, disposals, net gain/loss), total realized gains and losses, taxable events, short-term and long-term gain breakdown, and a detailed list of sample transactions with dates, amounts, values, and gain/loss per transaction.

ADAPTIVE LOG-CHUNKING WITH BACKOFF

Public RPC providers enforce wildly different eth_getLogs block range limits — some allow 10,000 blocks, others cap at 1,000, and many reject requests that exceed their internal buffer. Instead of guessing a safe range and failing on the first rejection, this calculator walks backwards from the latest block in dynamically sized chunks. When a request is rejected, the chunk size is halved and retried immediately. This guarantees that the scan completes on any provider without overwhelming the endpoint, and without giving up after a single refusal. The tool separately scans incoming and outgoing Transfer events to identify acquisitions and disposals for tax event simulation.

WHAT IT CANNOT SEE

This tool cannot access off-chain cost basis records or exchange transaction histories. It cannot provide legal tax advice. It cannot calculate tax liability for jurisdictions without specific rules. It cannot detect transactions that are not recorded on-chain. It cannot account for FIFO, LIFO, or other accounting methods without user input. It cannot handle cross-chain transfers or tax treatment of bridge transactions. It cannot guarantee compliance with any specific tax authority's regulations. All values are simulated for demonstration purposes and should not be used for actual tax filing. The tool does not account for tax-loss harvesting, wash sale rules, or jurisdiction-specific exemptions.
