About this app

WHAT IT DOES

Download Link Inspector scans the current page for download links and buttons, analyzes the file type, source domain, and any URL parameters, displays a summary with risk indicators for suspicious file types or untrusted domains, and shows a confirmation dialog before initiating downloads. The tool helps you identify potentially dangerous downloads before you click, protecting against malware, phishing, and unwanted file downloads.

WHERE IT RUNS

This tool works on any webpage that contains download links, including file sharing sites, software download pages, email attachments, and any page with downloadable content. It detects download links by analyzing link href attributes, text content, and common download indicators. It runs on all websites as designated in its match patterns.

HOW TO USE

After installing the BotGentz extension, the tool automatically scans the page for download links (configurable). Configure your settings in the panel: toggle risk indicators, confirm before download, block suspicious file types, scan on page load, and show file size estimates. The panel displays a list of detected download links with file names, extensions, domains, and risk indicators (Low, Medium, High). Suspicious files are highlighted in red with risk explanations. Click "Inspect" on any download to see detailed analysis including the full URL, file name, extension, domain, and risk reason. When you click a download link with a risky file type, a confirmation dialog appears. If "Block suspicious file types" is enabled, risky downloads are automatically blocked with a notification.

TECHNICAL SECTION — DOWNLOAD LINK ANALYSIS ENGINE

The tool uses a multi-stage analysis pipeline to evaluate download links. It first scans the DOM for potential download links using a combination of selectors (a[href], button[data-download], .download-link) and heuristic detection based on link text, URL patterns, and element attributes. For each detected link, the engine extracts the file extension from the URL path, checking against databases of risky extensions (executables, scripts, installers) and suspicious extensions (archives, documents with macros). It also analyzes the source domain, flagging external domains as medium risk. The tool intercepts click events on download links, applies risk-based filtering, and displays confirmation dialogs when appropriate. The analysis results are presented in a color-coded interface with risk badges and detailed inspection capabilities.

THE PANEL

The panel is draggable anywhere on the screen and remembers its position per site. It can snap to the left, right, top, or bottom edges, or float freely. Collapse it to a small status indicator when you need more page visibility, and expand it again with a single click. Resize it vertically or horizontally to see more download links. Press Escape to close the panel instantly. All settings (show risk indicators, confirm before download, block suspicious, scan on load, show file size) are saved globally and persist across sessions.

PLEASE NOTE

This tool requires the free BotGentz extension. It only analyzes links and does not modify or intercept actual file downloads beyond UI confirmation. The risk classification is based on file extensions and domains and may produce false positives or miss some threats. Always exercise caution when downloading files from the internet. Websites change their layouts and link structures frequently; scripts may need updates, and we work to keep them current but cannot guarantee uninterrupted operation.
