WHAT IT DOES

FindAGrave Web Memorial Photo Uploader Helper reads memorial page content to identify which photo categories are present and which ones still need uploading. It displays a progress panel showing the status of seven photo types: Grave Stone, Portrait, Document, Family Photo, Location/Scenery, Personal Object, and Other. Each photo type shows whether it has been detected on the page and whether you have marked it as uploaded. A progress bar and percentage indicator give you a quick overview of your completion status. The extension tracks upload progress per memorial, so you can easily see what you've already uploaded when you return to a memorial page. One-click buttons mark a photo type as uploaded, and a "Reset progress" button lets you clear all progress for a memorial if needed. Quick navigation buttons scroll to the photo section or open the upload page directly.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension works on all FindAGrave pages at findagrave.com and its subdomains, specifically on memorial detail pages where photos are displayed or can be uploaded. It runs on the main memorial page, the photo gallery view, and any page with memorial content. The extension operates entirely within your browser and does not access FindAGrave's servers directly—it reads only what is visible on the page you are viewing. It works alongside the free BotGentz extension, which provides the necessary scripting environment.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension, then navigate to findagrave.com and view a memorial page. The extension automatically detects photo content and displays the upload progress panel. Click the extension's icon in your browser toolbar to open the panel. The panel shows all photo types with their current status—detected, uploaded, or missing. Click the "Uploaded" button next to any photo type to mark it as complete. Use the "Show completed indicators" toggle to control whether completed items appear in the list. The "Go to Memorial" button scrolls to the photo section on the page. The "Open Upload Page" button navigates to the photo upload section for the current memorial. The "Refresh" button manually updates the panel with the latest page content.

CONTEXT-AWARE PHOTO DETECTION WITH ALT TEXT ANALYSIS

Unlike simple DOM scraping that relies on fixed selectors, this extension uses a dual-strategy detection engine. First, it scans the photo gallery for images and analyzes their alt text, title attributes, and surrounding captions to identify which photo types are present. Second, it scans the page text for keywords associated with each photo type, using a priority-weighted system that considers the context of the text (section headers, labels, and descriptive text near the gallery). The detection engine maintains a list of keywords for each photo type and scores matches based on proximity to photo-related elements and frequency. When multiple type indicators are found, a scoring algorithm resolves conflicts by favoring alt text matches over general text matches and considering the visual hierarchy of the page. This multi-source approach makes the extension resilient to FindAGrave's evolving page layouts and ensures accurate detection across different memorial templates.

THE PANEL

The panel supports drag-to-move anywhere on the page. It remembers its position per site, so it stays where you placed it on findagrave.com. Click the panel header to collapse it down to just the minimized bubble, or click the expand handle to show the full panel. The panel can be resized by dragging the bottom-right corner. Press the Escape key to close the expanded panel and return to the minimized state. All panel settings, including position, size, collapsed state, and completed indicators visibility, are saved per site and persist across browsing sessions.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz extension to be installed and active, as it provides the underlying DOM injection and script execution environment. FindAGrave's website changes periodically, and memorial page structures, class names, and photo gallery layouts may be updated. When that happens, the extension may stop detecting photo content until an update is released. The extension stores upload progress per memorial ID locally in your browser's storage using GM_setValue, with a separate key-value object for each memorial. No data is ever sent to any server, and no personal information is collected. The extension does not read or store your FindAGrave login credentials, email, or any identifying information. It only reads publicly visible memorial and photo data from the page. You can clear all stored progress at any time by clicking the "Reset progress" button for a memorial or by clearing your browser data for findagrave.com.
