Liquid Democracy Delegation Chain Tool

WHAT IT DOES

The Liquid Democracy Delegation Chain Tool enables you to manage your voting delegation in liquid democracy systems. You specify the DAO/governance contract address, the delegatee address (if delegating), and the action — delegate or revoke. The tool reads your current delegation status, delegate chain, voting power, delegation history, and total voting power. It then executes the delegation or revocation transaction, updating the delegation chain and transferring voting power accordingly. This provides a transparent way to participate in liquid democracy governance.

HOW TO USE

Connect your EVM wallet and select your network. Enter the DAO contract address and, if delegating, the delegatee address. Choose the action — "Delegate" to assign your voting power to another address, or "Revoke delegation" to reclaim your voting power. Click "Preview delegation" to see your current delegatee, voting power, delegation chain, and the effect of the action. If everything looks correct, click "Execute delegation" to complete the transaction. Progress is shown in real-time, and gas costs are calculated accurately using effectiveGasPrice.

ONE TECHNICAL SECTION — THE REAL MECHANISM

The tool interacts with a liquid democracy governance contract that implements delegation functionality. The getDelegation() function returns the user's current delegatee, voting power, and the timestamp of the delegation. The getDelegationChain() returns the full chain of delegation — the path of addresses that voting power flows through. The getVotingPower() calculates the total voting power available to the user, including any delegated power from others. The delegate() function assigns voting power to a delegatee, updating the delegation chain. The revokeDelegation() function removes the delegation, returning voting power to the user. The delegation chain is important because it allows for transitive delegation — if user A delegates to B, and B delegates to C, then C effectively holds voting power from both A and B. This creates a flexible, recursive governance structure.

WHAT IT CANNOT SEE

The tool cannot verify off-chain delegate trustworthiness or guarantee alignment with user preferences. It does not evaluate the delegate's voting history, their alignment with your values, or their reliability. It cannot detect if the delegate has changed their position or if the delegation chain is being used maliciously. It does not provide financial advice or ensure that delegation is beneficial. The tool also cannot recover voting power once delegated — ensure you trust your delegatee before delegating.

This tool is EVM-only and supports Ethereum, Goerli, Sepolia, Optimism, Arbitrum, Polygon, and Base. It does not support Solana, Tron, Starknet, SUI, TON, Aptos, Bitcoin, Cosmos, or XRP. Delegating voting power transfers your voting rights to another address — you can revoke at any time, but your vote will be cast according to the delegatee's decisions until you do. The tool is provided free and as-is; users assume full responsibility for their delegation decisions.
