About this app

WHAT IT DOES

Optimistic Rollup Challenge Period Explainer is a read-only tool that analyzes on-chain data for optimistic rollup challenge periods and generates AI-powered plain-language explanations of status and risks. It reads challenge period status, remaining challenge time, withdrawal batch state, rollup state root, fraud proof submissions, challenge initiation history, validator set composition, protocol parameters, L1 finalization contract state, disputed transactions, and challenge resolution status. The tool then presents this data alongside an AI-generated explanation of the current challenge period status, including remaining time, fraud proof activity, potential risks, and what happens if the period expires or a challenge is filed — helping you understand the risks before initiating or monitoring a withdrawal.

HOW TO USE

Connect your wallet using the BGWallet bridge and select your target network (Ethereum Mainnet is recommended for L1 challenge checks, but Arbitrum, Optimism, and Polygon are also supported). Enter the rollup or L2 bridge contract address — you vouch for this contract, not the tool. Enter the withdrawal ID or batch number you want to check. Optionally specify the rollup name. Click "Analyze challenge period" to read on-chain data. The tool displays the rollup contract, batch or withdrawal ID, rollup name, challenge period status, remaining time, and fraud proof submissions. Detailed information includes rollup state root, challenge history, validator set, disputed transactions, resolution status, and protocol parameters. A challenge period progress meter visually indicates how much of the period has elapsed. An AI explanation appears below the on-chain data, describing the current challenge period status, remaining time, fraud proof activity, potential risks, and what happens if the period expires or a challenge is filed. The wallet's own signature step still protects you — this explanation is informational only and does not replace reviewing what you approve in your wallet.

TECHNICAL MECHANISM

The tool uses ethers.js v5.7.2 with the provider from the BGWallet bridge to read on-chain data from the contract you specify. No hardcoded contract addresses are used — you are always in control of which contract you trust. When analyzing challenge periods, the tool reads challenge period status from the rollup's challenge period management contract (e.g., getChallengePeriod(), getPeriodStatus()), remaining challenge time by calculating the difference between the current block timestamp and the period's start or end time, withdrawal batch state from the batch submission or withdrawal contract, rollup state root from the state commitment contract, fraud proof submissions from the dispute resolution or fraud proof registry contract (e.g., getFraudProofs(), getSubmissions()), challenge initiation history from event logs (e.g., ChallengeInitiated, ChallengeResolved), validator set composition from the validator management contract, protocol parameters (e.g., challenge window length, bond requirements) from the parameter storage or governance contract, L1 finalization contract state from the L1 bridge or finalization contract, disputed transactions from the dispute registry, and challenge resolution status from the challenge resolution contract. The tool fetches event logs by walking backwards in chunks and halving chunk size on failure, ensuring logs are properly read despite varying RPC limitations. The data is formatted and passed to the AI bridge via BGAI.generate() with a structured prompt that includes all the on-chain data read. The AI is instructed to explain the current challenge period status including remaining time, fraud proof activity, potential risks, and what happens if the period expires or a challenge is filed — while stating plainly that it cannot predict challenge outcomes, validator honesty, or finalization delays, and cannot guarantee that a challenged batch will be resolved in the challenger's favor or within any specific timeframe. The AI response is capped at 1,024 tokens to ensure concise, focused risk assessments. All computed values are guarded against negative numbers — if a remaining time calculation or progress score appears invalid, the tool flags it rather than displaying nonsensical values.

WHAT IT CANNOT SEE

This tool cannot predict challenge outcomes, validator honesty, or finalization delays. It cannot guarantee that a challenged batch will be resolved in the challenger's favor or within any specific timeframe. It cannot detect off-chain fraud proof evidence or dispute resolution outcomes. The AI explanation is generated from on-chain data only and cannot detect hidden validator collusion, off-chain fraud proof manipulation, relayer misbehavior, or dispute resolution not reflected on-chain. It cannot predict L1 congestion, gas price spikes, or network delays that may affect finalization. The tool does not continuously monitor the challenge period; each analysis is a snapshot at the time of the lookup. It cannot detect delayed finalization, transaction frontrunning, or off-chain data latency. The tool does not store any data persistently; all state is in-memory and resets on reload. The AI explanation is informational and does not constitute financial advice, legal advice, or a guarantee of withdrawal or challenge safety.

PLEASE NOTE

Optimistic Rollup Challenge Period Explainer works exclusively with EVM-compatible chains. It requires a Web3 wallet (MetaMask or similar) and the BGWallet bridge. Explanations are AI-generated from data the app reads on-chain — always review what you are actually signing in your wallet before approving it. Always verify the rollup contract address you are using — the tool does not validate or endorse any contracts. Optimistic rollup challenge periods carry significant risk including potential challenge disputes, fraud proof failures, validator compromise, and complete loss of funds if the challenge is unsuccessful. Use this tool as a guide only; always cross-check with the rollup's official interface and independent sources for critical decisions. This is experimental software; use at your own risk.
