About this app

WHAT IT DOES This userscript transforms your Rent.com search results into a price comparison dashboard. It reads rental listing data from the page—extracting property names, prices, bedrooms, bathrooms, and square footage—and calculates price per square foot and price per bedroom for each listing. A color-coded value indicator appears on every listing: green for Great Value (115%). The overlay shows price comparison metrics including price per square foot and price per bedroom. A summary panel shows the number of listings, average price, lowest price, highest price, and the best value listing (lowest price per square foot). Each listing includes a one-click ↗ button to open the property page. This is invaluable for renters, real estate investors, and property managers who need to identify the best rental values, compare prices across properties, and make informed leasing decisions. WHERE IT RUNS The script runs on all Rent.com web application pages at *.rent.com/*, with automatic detection of search results pages, property listings, and any page displaying rental information. It works across all Rent.com interfaces by using multiple selector strategies to find listing cards, prices, bedrooms, bathrooms, square footage, and property links. The script detects dynamic content loading and re-applies the price comparison overlay when the search results update. It runs across the entire Rent.com domain, ensuring coverage whether you're viewing a main search results page, a saved search, or a specific property detail page. HOW TO USE Install the script via the BotGentz extension and navigate to any Rent.com search results page. The price comparison overlay will appear automatically on every listing. Each badge shows the price per square foot and price per bedroom, with a color-coded value indicator. The summary panel shows average price, lowest price, highest price, and the best value listing. Click the ↗ button next to any listing to open its property page in a new tab. Use the panel controls to customize your experience: toggle the price comparison overlay on or off, show or hide price per square foot, enable or disable price per bedroom, show or hide the summary panel, or toggle value indicators. The "Refresh" button manually rescans the page for updated listing data, and the "Copy summary" button exports the price summary to your clipboard for reporting. THE MECHANISM - DATA EXTRACTION, METRIC CALCULATION, AND VALUE CATEGORIZATION This script identifies listing data by scanning each property card using a cascading selector strategy. It extracts property names from name elements, prices from price elements, bedrooms and bathrooms from specification elements, and square footage from size elements. Price per square foot is calculated as price / square feet, and price per bedroom is calculated as price / bedrooms. The average price is calculated across all visible listings, and each listing's price is compared to the average to determine its value category: Great Value (115%). The badge is created as a DOM element with inline styles and inserted into the listing name cell. The summary panel aggregates data and identifies the best value listing based on the lowest price per square foot. THE PANEL The control panel appears as a floating, draggable element that you can position anywhere on the Rent.com page. Drag by the header to reposition it, and the position is saved per site using GM_setValue so it stays where you left it across sessions. Release the panel near any edge and it snaps into place, keeping your workspace organized. Click the panel header to collapse it into a small bubble showing only the chart emoji (📊), minimizing distraction while keeping controls accessible. Drag from the bubble to restore the full panel. The panel automatically resizes to fit its content and includes all setting toggles, action buttons, and a value legend. Press the Escape key to quickly collapse the panel to its minimized state. The panel remains visible across page navigation within Rent.com, with the price comparison overlay updating automatically as you move between search results. PLEASE NOTE This script requires the free BotGentz extension to function. It is designed for Rent.com users who need to compare rental prices and find the best value. The script reads only visible listing data from the DOM—it does not access Rent.com's API, your account credentials, or any sensitive information. All settings (overlay visibility, PPSF toggle, PPBR toggle, summary toggle, value indicator toggle, and panel position) are stored locally using GM_setValue and never leave your browser. The script does not modify your Rent.com data—it only reads and visualizes visible listing information. Price comparisons are calculated relative to the listings currently visible on the page; as you scroll or load more listings, the averages and value indicators may shift. If Rent.com updates its website structure, the script may need to be updated to match new selectors. The "best value" listing is determined by the lowest price per square foot among visible listings.
