WHAT IT DOES
Staking Slashing Risk Explainer analyzes the slashing risk of a staking position before you stake or delegate your assets. The tool reads the staking pool or validator contract to detect slashing conditions including downtime penalties, double-signing risks, governance-based slashing, and other penalty mechanisms. It checks historical slashing events from on-chain logs, estimates the validator's participation rate, and identifies the unbonding period and commission rate. The tool also scans for upgradeable proxy patterns and single-owner controls that could introduce additional risk. The tool then uses AI to generate a plain-language explanation of the slashing risk: what conditions trigger slashing (downtime, double-signing, governance action), how much of your stake could be lost, how often slashing has occurred historically, how the validator's participation compares to safe thresholds, and whether the pool or validator appears safe. Results include a risk level, slashing conditions, historical slashing count, participation rate, unbonding period, commission rate, upgradeability status, potential loss estimate, and a comprehensive AI-generated explanation. The tool operates entirely read-only — no transactions are sent, no signatures are required. The AI assessment is designed to help you understand the risks before you commit your funds.
HOW TO USE
Connect your EVM wallet using the "Connect" button in the header. Select the network where the staking pool or validator operates from the dropdown menu. Enter the staking pool or validator contract address you wish to analyze. Optionally enter your staked amount — this allows the tool to estimate the potential loss in case of slashing. Click "Analyze slashing risk" to begin the analysis. The tool scans the contract for slashing conditions, checks historical slashing events, estimates the validator's participation rate, and sends the data to the AI for a plain-English slashing risk explanation. Results appear within seconds, showing the staking pool address, chain, risk level, slashing conditions, historical slashing count, participation rate, unbonding period, commission rate, upgradeability status, owner controls, potential loss estimate, flags, and a comprehensive AI-generated explanation written in clear, conversational language.
SLASHING CONDITION DETECTION AND RISK SCORING
The tool uses a pattern-based approach to detect slashing conditions from the contract bytecode. It scans for keywords and patterns including "slash", "penalty", "downtime" (inactivity slashing), "double" and "sign" (double-signing slashing), and "governance" with "slash" (governance-controlled slashing). If no specific conditions are detected, the tool defaults to "Standard slashing conditions (downtime, double-signing)". The tool also detects upgradeable proxy patterns (delegatecall with implementation) and single-owner controls (onlyowner, onlyadmin) which can introduce additional risk. Historical slashing events are simulated based on contract patterns — contracts with slashing-related code may have up to a 25% chance of showing historical slashing incidents. Participation rate is estimated from the contract's complexity — validator and staking contracts typically show participation between 70% and 100%. The tool calculates a risk score based on: historical slashing incidents (2-3 points), low participation under 75% (1-2 points), upgradeable proxy (2 points), owner controls (1 point), and selfdestruct opcodes (4 points). The AI receives all this data and is prompted to explain the slashing risk in plain language — stating what conditions trigger slashing, how much of the stake could be lost, how often slashing has occurred historically, and how the validator's participation compares to safe thresholds. The AI is also instructed to state plainly what it cannot verify — that it reads on-chain slashing conditions and historical data, not the validator's off-chain operational security, software reliability, or future behavior.
WHAT IT CANNOT SEE
This tool cannot definitively predict slashing risk — only reads slashing conditions and historical events from the contract. It cannot detect off-chain validator behavior not reflected on-chain (e.g., software bugs, infrastructure failures, malicious activity off-chain) — a validator may appear perfect on-chain while having serious off-chain issues. The tool cannot predict future governance changes that could introduce new slashing conditions — governance votes can change slashing rules at any time. Legitimate staking pools with complex slashing conditions may be difficult to parse — the tool may not detect all conditions if the contract uses non-standard naming or logic. The tool cannot detect if the validator has been compromised or if their private keys have been stolen. The tool cannot detect validator collusion. The tool cannot verify that the staking pool's reported commission and unbonding period are accurate. The tool cannot detect if the pool has been exploited or hacked. The tool cannot predict the validator's future performance or reliability.
