WHAT IT DOES

Steam Review Summary Badge extracts review data from any Steam game page and displays it as a compact, color-coded badge overlay. The tool captures the total number of reviews, positive and negative counts, the overall rating text (e.g., "Very Positive," "Mixed," "Negative"), and recent review scores when available. The badge presents this information at a glance with an emoji indicator, color-coded border matching the rating, and expandable details showing the full breakdown. A click on the badge takes you directly to the game's full review page for deeper analysis. The tool helps gamers quickly assess a game's reception without scrolling through the page or opening additional tabs.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension works exclusively on Steam store pages at store.steampowered.com/app/*, covering every game page in the Steam store. It functions on both the main store page and regional variants, extracting review data from the page's existing structure without making external API calls. The tool adapts to Steam's various review summary layouts, including the main review section and the recent reviews area.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension and navigate to any Steam game page. A badge appears automatically in the top-right corner of the page, displaying the game's rating and a brief summary. Click the badge to open the full reviews page for that game. Hover over the badge to see an expanded view with positive and negative counts and total review numbers. Use the "−" button in the badge header to collapse or expand the detailed view. The overlay panel provides additional controls: click "Update Badge" to refresh the data, "Toggle Badge Visibility" to show or hide the badge, and use the position dropdown to move the badge to any corner of the screen. Enable "Auto-hide on scroll" to make the badge fade out when you scroll down the page, keeping it out of the way while browsing.

TECHNICAL SECTION — STEAM REVIEW DATA EXTRACTION

The extension uses a multi-strategy DOM parsing approach to extract review data from Steam's complex and frequently updated page structure. It queries known review container elements using multiple CSS selectors including .user_reviews_summary_row, .review_breakdown, and .game_review_summary, with fallback selectors that match pattern-based class names. The parser extracts rating text by scanning for known rating keywords (Very Positive, Mixed, Negative, etc.) and determines the rating class by analyzing CSS classes on the review container. For numerical data, the tool uses regular expressions to extract positive and negative counts from text nodes, calculating total reviews and percentage scores. The recent reviews section is parsed separately using the .recent_reviews_summary selector. All data is normalized into a consistent structure and rendered without relying on external APIs or network requests, ensuring fast, reliable performance even when Steam's servers are slow.

THE PANEL — DRAG / PER-SITE POSITION / SNAP / COLLAPSE / RESIZE / ESCAPE

The overlay panel is fully interactive and designed for seamless multitasking. Drag it anywhere on the screen using the handle at the top of the panel; the position is saved per site so it stays where you left it across sessions. The panel includes a snap-to-edge feature that gently anchors the overlay to the nearest screen edge when released. Click the collapse button to minimize the panel to a compact pill showing only the current review status; expand it again with a single click. Resize the panel vertically by dragging the bottom-right corner to view more controls. Press the Escape key at any time to instantly close the overlay; it reappears on the next page navigation or refresh.

This extension requires the free BotGentz companion extension to function, as it provides the underlying content script injection and cross-origin communication framework. No personal data, browsing history, or Steam activity is stored, transmitted, or shared. All review data extraction occurs entirely locally in your browser; no information is sent to any external server. The extension does not access or store login credentials, financial data, or personally identifiable information. Steam may update its page structure and review display mechanisms; the extension includes multiple selector fallbacks to maintain compatibility, but major redesigns may temporarily affect badge display. Review data is displayed as presented on the Steam page and is subject to Steam's moderation and review policies.
