Tab Suspender for Browser Speed

WHAT IT DOES

Tab Suspender watches how long a tab has been in the background and, once it passes the limit you set, stops the heavy work it is doing. Media is paused, the visible content is swapped for a lightweight placeholder, and memory that was being held for a page you are not looking at is released back to the browser. Coming back to the tab restores it instantly.

Any website, with the timeout applied consistently and the option to disable it entirely for sites you always want live.

WHAT IT WILL NOT DO

This is the part that separates a suspender you can trust from one you cannot. A tab is never suspended while media is playing, so a video or a podcast in the background keeps going. It is never suspended while a field is focused, so you cannot be halfway through typing and lose it. And it is never suspended while any input on the page holds text you entered that was not there when the page loaded, so a half-written comment, a part-completed form or an unsent message is always safe. Those three checks run every time before anything is touched.

HOW TO USE

Install the free BotGentz browser extension, buy this script, then click your install link. Open the panel and pick how long a background tab should sit idle before being suspended, from five minutes to two hours. You can also suspend the current tab immediately, or turn suspension off for the site you are on.

RESTORING

Any interaction brings the tab back: moving the mouse, pressing a key, scrolling, or clicking the Restore button on the placeholder. Restoring is immediate because the page state was kept rather than discarded.

THE PANEL

The panel drags anywhere by its header and remembers its position separately for each site, snapping to the nearest corner when released. It collapses to a slim bar, resizes from the corner, and hides to a bubble with Escape, so it never covers content you are reading.

PLEASE NOTE

Sites that hold state only in memory, such as an unsaved drawing in a web app, may not survive a suspend and restore. Turn suspension off for those sites. Requires the free BotGentz browser extension.
