WHAT IT DOES

Title Case Generator is a browser extension that scans any webpage for headings (H1-H6) and selected text passages and converts them to proper title case following industry-standard style rules. It supports AP Style (capitalize all words of 4+ letters), Chicago Style (capitalize all words except articles, conjunctions, and short prepositions), and MLA Style (capitalize all words except articles, prepositions, and conjunctions). A custom style option allows you to define your own small-word list. The tool provides a live preview showing exactly what will change before you commit, and includes a full undo function to revert all changes instantly. It displays a count of converted headings and remembers your style and scope preferences per domain. The tool is ideal for writers, editors, content managers, students, and anyone who needs to ensure consistent title capitalization in web content.

WHERE IT RUNS

Title Case Generator works on any webpage that contains heading elements or selectable text. It runs locally in your browser as a lightweight userscript, scanning heading tags and text nodes while avoiding script tags, style blocks, and form inputs. It works on blogs, news sites, documentation pages, content management systems, academic papers, and any other page with headings or titles. The tool handles static pages, dynamically loaded content via AJAX, and single-page applications where content updates without page reloads. All processing occurs entirely in your browser—no text is ever sent to any server.

HOW TO USE

After installation, open the floating panel by clicking the extension icon. The panel automatically scans the page and shows a preview of all headings that would be converted, with changes highlighted in green. Select your preferred style from AP, Chicago, MLA, or Custom using the dropdown menu. Choose the scope: "All headings" to apply to every heading on the page, or "Selected text" to convert only the heading or text you have highlighted. Each selection updates the preview in real time. Click the Preview button to refresh the preview display, the Apply button to commit the conversions to the page, and the Revert button to restore all text to its original state. The count display shows how many headings have been or will be converted. All style and scope preferences are saved per domain.

REAL MECHANISM — WHY THIS WORKS

Most title case tools use simple capitalization rules that cannot handle the nuances of different style guides. Title Case Generator uses a rule-based conversion engine that implements the specific capitalization logic for AP, Chicago, and MLA styles. The engine first tokenizes text into words while preserving whitespace and punctuation. It then applies the selected style's rules by checking each word against a curated list of small words (articles, conjunctions, short prepositions). For AP Style, the engine additionally capitalizes any word of four or more letters regardless of its position in the small-word list. The engine always capitalizes the first and last words of the title, as required by all major style guides. It preserves existing capitalization within the text by converting each word to lowercase before applying the style rules, ensuring consistent results. The preview mode uses a highlight mechanism that wraps converted text in styled spans, giving users a clear visual indication of what will change. The engine processes headings by traversing the DOM and identifying all H1-H6 elements, then replacing text nodes within those elements. This approach ensures accurate, fast, and fully private title case conversion without sending any data off-device.

THE PANEL

The floating panel is fully draggable and remembers its position per site, snapping to the edges of the viewport when dragged near them. You can collapse the panel to a small icon to minimize screen distraction and expand it back with a single click. The panel is resizable from the bottom-right corner, giving you more space to view conversion options and statistics. Press the Escape key to close the panel instantly. The panel remains open across page navigation within the same domain, maintaining your current style and scope preferences. All preferences—panel position, style selection, and scope selection—are saved per domain for a seamless experience.

PLEASE NOTE

Title Case Generator requires the free BotGentz extension to be installed and enabled, as it relies on the cross-extension messaging API provided by BotGentz for DOM access permissions. Because websites frequently update their structure, heading detection and conversion may require periodic script updates to maintain compatibility. If the tool does not convert text as expected, please check for updates or report the issue. All text processing occurs entirely in your browser. No page content, text samples, or conversion results are ever sent to any server. The extension does not read, store, or transmit any personal information. It only reads and modifies the DOM of the pages you choose to interact with, and all changes are fully reversible using the Revert function.
