About this app

WHAT IT DOES Title Tag Length Checker is a browser extension that checks the page title tag length and displays a warning if it exceeds recommended limits (50-60 characters) or is too short. The tool shows the current title, character count, and a visual indicator (progress bar and status badge) of the length. It provides specific suggestions for improving the title based on its length, such as adding keywords if too short or removing words if too long. You can toggle the feature on or off, and settings are saved per website. The tool is ideal for SEO professionals, content writers, web developers, and anyone who wants to ensure their page titles are optimized for search engines. WHERE IT RUNS Title Tag Length Checker runs on any webpage, overlaying a floating panel that does not interfere with page content. It operates entirely in your browser as a lightweight userscript, reading the document.title property. It works on any page, whether static or dynamic, with no external dependencies. All settings are stored locally using GM_setValue—no data is ever sent to any server. HOW TO USE After installation, open the floating panel by clicking the extension icon. The panel shows the current status (Enabled or Disabled) and a toggle button to enable or disable the checker. The panel displays the current page title, its character count, and a status indicator showing whether the title is optimal, too short, slightly short, slightly long, or too long. A progress bar visually represents the title length relative to the recommended range. Suggestions are provided to help you improve the title. Click the "Copy Title" button to copy the title to your clipboard. Click the "Refresh" button to manually update the display. The tool automatically updates when the page title changes. REAL MECHANISM — WHY THIS WORKS Most SEO tools require copying the title into an external analyzer or installing complex browser extensions. Title Tag Length Checker uses a lightweight, real-time approach that reads the page title directly from the DOM. The tool reads document.title to get the current page title, then calculates its length in characters (not pixels). It compares the length against the recommended range of 50-60 characters, which is the industry standard for search engine display. Titles longer than 60 characters are typically truncated in search results, and titles shorter than 50 characters may not provide enough context. The tool categorizes the title into six states: missing (0 characters), too short (70). The progress bar shows the length relative to the optimal range, and the status indicator provides a color-coded visual cue. Suggestions are generated based on the title's length, guiding users on how to improve it. The tool uses MutationObserver to detect changes to the title and updates automatically. This approach ensures accurate, real-time, and fully private title checking without requiring any external services or network access. THE PANEL The floating panel is fully draggable and remembers its position per site, snapping to the edges of the viewport when dragged near them. You can collapse the panel to a small icon to minimize screen distraction and expand it back with a single click. The panel is resizable from the bottom-right corner, giving you more space to view the results. Press the Escape key to close the panel instantly. The panel remains open across page navigation within the same domain, maintaining your current view state. All preferences—panel position and enabled state—are saved per domain for a seamless experience. PLEASE NOTE Title Tag Length Checker requires the free BotGentz extension to be installed and enabled, as it relies on the cross-extension messaging API provided by BotGentz for DOM access permissions. The tool checks the title length in characters, which is the standard for SEO recommendations. The recommended range of 50-60 characters is a general guideline; optimal length may vary based on the specific content and context. The tool does not analyze the quality of the title content, only its length. All settings are stored locally in your browser using GM_setValue. No page title data or usage information is ever sent to any server. The extension does not read, store, or transmit any personal information. It only reads the page title and displays it locally at your request.
