WHAT IT DOES

Universal Ad Slot Collapser detects and removes empty ad containers, sponsored content placeholders, and ad slots that are left empty or hidden by ad blockers. Many websites reserve large spaces for advertisements that never load — either because the ad couldn't be served, the user has an ad blocker, or the ad network failed to fill the slot. These empty containers leave behind awkward white space that interrupts the reading flow and wastes screen real estate. This tool collapses those empty slots, removing the wasted space and making pages cleaner, more compact, and easier to read.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension works on any website that uses ad containers, sponsored content placeholders, or advertisement slots. It functions on news sites, blogs, e-commerce platforms, forums, and any page that displays or attempts to display advertisements. The tool works across all domains and adapts to dynamically loaded content and single-page applications.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension and navigate to any website with ad containers. The tool automatically collapses empty ad slots on the current page. Use the overlay panel to control the behavior: toggle "Enable on this site" to enable or disable the tool for the current domain. Choose which types of containers to collapse: empty ad containers (divs with no visible content), hidden ad slots (elements already hidden by ad blockers), and sponsored content placeholders (elements labeled as sponsored or promoted). Add custom CSS selectors to target specific ad containers that the auto-detection may miss. Click "Collapse Ads Now" to manually scan and collapse any new ad containers that appear after dynamic content updates.

TECHNICAL SECTION — AD CONTAINER DETECTION AND COLLAPSE

The extension uses a comprehensive detection engine that combines CSS selectors with content analysis. It first queries a curated list of over 30 common ad container selectors, including class and ID patterns like [class*="ad-"], [id*="advert"], .ad-container, .ad-slot, .sponsored-content, and [data-ad-slot]. For each detected element, the tool performs a three-stage analysis: it checks if the container is empty using text content length and visible child element analysis (including checking iframe content when accessible), checks if the container is already hidden via display:none or visibility:hidden, and checks if the container is labeled as sponsored content. Each detected container is aggressively collapsed using display:none, visibility:hidden, height:0, width:0, overflow:hidden, and zeroed padding and margins, with any parent wrapper also collapsed when it contains only the ad element.

THE PANEL — DRAG / PER-SITE POSITION / SNAP / COLLAPSE / RESIZE / ESCAPE

The overlay panel is fully interactive and designed for seamless multitasking. Drag it anywhere on the screen using the handle at the top of the panel; the position is saved per site so it stays where you left it across sessions. The panel includes a snap-to-edge feature that gently anchors the overlay to the nearest screen edge when released. Click the collapse button to minimize the panel to a compact pill showing the current collapse status; expand it again with a single click. Resize the panel vertically by dragging the bottom-right corner to view more controls. Press the Escape key at any time to instantly close the overlay; it reappears on the next page navigation or refresh.

This extension requires the free BotGentz companion extension to function, as it provides the underlying content script injection and cross-origin communication framework. No personal data, browsing history, or page content is stored, transmitted, or shared. Settings are stored locally in your browser using GM_setValue and are never sent to any external server. The extension does not access or store login credentials, financial data, or personally identifiable information. The tool collapses elements based on class names, content, and structure; it may occasionally collapse legitimate non-ad elements that share similar patterns. The custom selectors option allows you to refine which elements are targeted or add new selectors for sites not covered by the built-in list. Some ad containers are loaded dynamically via JavaScript after the page has finished loading; the tool monitors DOM changes to catch these late-loading containers. The extension does not block ads — it only removes the empty space left behind by ad blockers or failed ad loads.
