Universal Dark Mode Pro

WHAT IT DOES

Universal Dark Mode Pro darkens websites that never shipped a dark theme of their own. It inverts the page and then re-inverts images, video, canvases and background pictures, so photographs and logos keep their real colours while text and panels go dark. A hue rotation is applied alongside the inversion so blues stay blue instead of turning orange, which is what a naive inversion does to every site it touches.

THE MODE THAT MATTERS

Auto is the default and it is the reason this script is worth having. Before applying anything it reads the computed background colour of the page and works out its luminance. If the site already has a dark theme it does nothing at all, because inverting an already-dark site produces a washed-out light page that is worse than leaving it untouched. Most dark mode scripts get this wrong and have to be disabled site by site by hand.

HOW TO USE

Install the free BotGentz browser extension, buy this script, then click your install link. Open the panel and choose Auto, Always on, Softer, or Off for this site. The choice is remembered for that site and applies immediately without reloading.

SOFTER MODE

Full inversion produces pure white text on pure black, which many people find harsh for long reading. Softer reduces the inversion so the result is a dark grey page with light grey text, which is easier over a long session.

THE PANEL

The panel drags anywhere by its header and stays where you leave it on each site, snapping to the nearest corner when released. It collapses to a slim bar, resizes from the corner, and hides to a small bubble with Escape. On single-page sites that swap out the whole document without navigating, the style is watched and reapplied automatically rather than silently falling off.

PLEASE NOTE

A small number of sites use unusual layering or heavy CSS filters of their own and may look odd inverted. Set those to Off for this site and the setting is remembered. Websites change their styling from time to time and results can shift. Requires the free BotGentz browser extension.
