About this app

WHAT IT DOES

Validator Client Diversity Compliance Checker-and-Switcher monitors the client software distribution of Ethereum validators to identify concentration risks. The tool reads validator metadata—including client version, graffiti, and attestation data—to determine which client software each validator is running. It then computes the percentage distribution across major clients (Lighthouse, Prysm, Teku, Nimbus, Lodestar) and compares it against a user-defined diversity threshold. If any client exceeds the threshold, the tool flags the validator set as non-compliant and provides recommendations for switching clients to improve diversity.

This tool is essential for staking providers, solo stakers, and ecosystem participants who want to reduce the risk of a client bug causing significant network disruption. It provides visibility into the real-world distribution of validators and helps users make informed decisions about client switching.

HOW TO USE

1. Connect your EVM wallet to the network (Ethereum Mainnet or compatible).

2. Enter one or more validator indices (comma-separated) to check, or leave the input blank to check a random sample.

3. Set your diversity threshold percentage (default 33%)—if any client exceeds this percentage, the set is flagged as non-compliant.

4. Click "Check Diversity" to fetch client metadata and compute the distribution.

5. The tool displays the distribution as a pie chart, a compliance status badge, and per-validator details.

6. Review the results and the switching recommendation based on the detected clients.

TECHNICAL MECHANISM

The tool simulates reading from the Ethereum beacon chain by querying validator metadata endpoints or on-chain attestation data. It parses the graffiti field—which often includes client information—and maps it to known client names. The tool then calculates the percentage of validators running each client and compares the largest share against the user-defined threshold. The diversity score and compliance status are displayed with color-coded badges. The tool is read-only and does not require transaction signing. In production, it would integrate with beacon chain APIs like the Lighthouse or Prysm HTTP endpoints.

WHAT IT CANNOT SEE

This tool cannot verify client software version beyond what validators voluntarily expose—client information is self-reported and may be incomplete or inaccurate. It cannot detect validators that use modified or custom clients that do not identify themselves in standard fields. It cannot force validators to switch clients; it only provides recommendations. It cannot monitor clients that do not publish version data or that use custom graffiti strings. It cannot detect client diversity issues on non-EVM chains. It cannot prove that a validator's reported client is accurate or hasn't been spoofed. The tool provides a snapshot in time; client distribution can change rapidly as validators enter or exit. It does not track historical trends or predict future diversity changes.

PLEASE NOTE

EVM chains only. This tool requires the validator to publish identifiable client information in their graffiti or version data. Not all validators do this—unknown clients will be counted separately. The diversity threshold is a best-practice recommendation; consult with the validator community for the most current guidance. The tool does not execute client switching—it only checks compliance and provides recommendations. Always test on a testnet before making changes to a mainnet validator configuration.
