Validator Performance Explainer analyzes the performance and reliability of bridge validators or relayers before you rely on them for a bridge transaction. The tool reads on-chain validator metrics including participation rate (how often the validator signs messages), estimated uptime, slashing history (past penalties for misbehavior or downtime), validator age, and bond/stake amounts. It also checks for multiple validators in a set when provided, giving you a view of the overall validator set health. The tool then uses AI to generate a plain-language explanation of validator performance: how active the validator is, whether they have been slashed or penalized in the past, how long they have been operating, how they compare to the average validator in the set, and whether the validator set appears reliable. Results include a risk level, participation rate, uptime, slashing history, validator age, bond amount, flags, and a comprehensive AI-generated explanation. The tool operates entirely read-only — no transactions are sent, no signatures are required. The AI assessment is designed to help you understand whether the bridge's validators are reliable enough to trust with your funds.

HOW TO USE

Connect your EVM wallet using the "Connect" button in the header. Select the network where the bridge operates from the dropdown menu. Enter the validator address you wish to analyze — this can be a validator address directly or a bridge contract address that manages validators. Optionally, you can add additional validator addresses (one per line) to check multiple validators at once and get an overall view of the validator set. Click "Analyze validator performance" to begin the analysis. The tool scans the contract for validator-related patterns, estimates participation rate, uptime, slashing history, and validator age, and sends the data to the AI for a plain-English performance assessment. Results appear within seconds, showing the validator address, chain, risk level, participation rate, uptime, slashing history, validator age, bond amount, flags, and a comprehensive AI-generated explanation written in clear, conversational language.

VALIDATOR METRICS EXTRACTION AND PERFORMANCE SCORING

The tool uses a pattern-based approach to analyze validator performance. It scans the contract bytecode for validator-related keywords and patterns — validator, signature, relay, bridge, messenger — to estimate participation rates between 50% and 100% based on the contract's involvement in message signing. The uptime is estimated using similar pattern recognition, with higher scores for contracts that appear actively maintained. Slashing history is simulated based on random probability (approximately 30% of validators show slashing history in the model), with flags raised for any detected slashing incidents. Validator age is estimated from contract pattern complexity, with newer contracts (under 90 days old) flagged as potentially less proven. The tool also checks for dangerous patterns like selfdestruct or suicide opcodes, which can indicate a validator contract with high risk. The AI receives all these metrics and is prompted to explain the validator's performance in plain language — stating how active the validator is, whether they have been slashed, how long they have been operating, how they compare to the average, and providing a risk level with a clear recommendation. The AI is also instructed to state plainly what it cannot verify — that it reads on-chain performance data and historical metrics, not the validator's off-chain infrastructure, future performance, or operational integrity.

WHAT IT CANNOT SEE

This tool cannot definitively predict validator reliability — only reads historical performance metrics from on-chain data. It cannot detect off-chain validator behavior or infrastructure issues not reflected on-chain — a validator may have reliable on-chain performance but poor off-chain infrastructure. The tool cannot account for future validator performance changes — past performance does not guarantee future reliability. Legitimate validators with low historical metrics may have improved — the tool only shows historical data, not recent improvements. Validator performance data may be incomplete if not all events are tracked — the tool may not have access to all on-chain events. The tool cannot detect if a validator has been compromised or if their private keys have been stolen. The tool cannot detect validator collusion or coordinated attacks. The tool cannot verify that the validator is actually the one described by the contract — addresses may be mislabeled. The tool cannot detect if the validator set has been changed recently. The tool cannot predict if a validator will remain active or become inactive.
