About this app

WHAT IT DOES

Vanguard Web Asset Allocation Overlay automatically scans Vanguard portfolio and account pages to extract comprehensive asset allocation data including holdings by asset class (Stocks, Bonds, Short-Term Reserves, International), individual fund holdings, and account balances. The tool displays a floating overlay panel with a visual pie chart showing the percentage distribution of your portfolio across asset classes, with color-coded segments and a legend. A details section shows the exact percentages for each asset class. The panel compares your current allocation against target allocation percentages that you set—you can input custom targets for Stocks, Bonds, and International allocations, and the tool shows deviation from target with color-coded indicators (green for within 5%, yellow for moderate deviation). Your target allocation preferences are saved across sessions. Individual fund holdings are displayed when available. This provides a complete, visual overview of your portfolio's asset allocation and how it compares to your targets.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension operates exclusively on vanguard.com domain pages that contain portfolio and account content—specifically pages with "/portfolio", "/account", "/holdings", or "/balances" in the URL path, or pages that display asset allocation and portfolio breakdowns. It works alongside the free BotGentz companion extension, which provides the necessary DOM access and page interaction capabilities. The asset allocation overlay runs entirely within your local browser instance and does not communicate with any external servers or APIs. All allocation data extraction, pie chart rendering, and target preference storage occurs on your machine, ensuring your portfolio data and allocation preferences remain private. It supports all modern Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera) and Firefox when paired with the BotGentz bridge.

HOW TO USE

After installing both BotGentz and this asset allocation overlay, navigate to any Vanguard portfolio or account page. Within 1-2 seconds, a panel appears in the bottom-right corner displaying a pie chart of your asset allocation with color-coded segments and a legend showing each asset class with its percentage. The "Details" section shows exact percentages for stocks, bonds, short-term reserves, international, and total balance. The "Target" section lets you set target percentages for stocks, bonds, and international allocations—enter your desired percentages and the tool immediately shows how your current allocation compares to your targets, with color-coded deviation indicators. Your target preferences are saved automatically across sessions. The "Holdings" section lists individual fund holdings with amounts and percentages when available. The panel provides a complete visual analysis of your portfolio allocation.

ASSET ALLOCATION EXTRACTION AND PIE CHART VISUALIZATION

The asset allocation overlay uses a multi-strategy extraction system to locate and parse allocation data from Vanguard pages. It first attempts to find structured allocation elements using selectors based on the site's typical class naming patterns, including "asset-allocation," "allocation-chart," and "portfolio-allocation." When these selectors fail due to site updates, the tool falls back to text-based parsing, scanning the page for allocation patterns using pattern matching for terms like "stocks," "bonds," "short-term," "international," and percentage values. The tool extracts stock, bond, short-term reserve, and international percentages, as well as total balance and individual fund holdings. The pie chart is rendered using inline SVG with path-based pie slices, with color-coded segments—green for stocks, blue for bonds, yellow for short-term, and purple for international. The legend displays each asset class with its corresponding color and percentage. Target allocation comparison calculates deviation from user-defined targets and displays color-coded indicators.

THE PANEL

The asset allocation overlay panel is a compact, functional overlay that integrates into the Vanguard portfolio page. It can be dragged by clicking and holding the title bar, positioning the panel anywhere on the screen for optimal visibility while you analyze your allocation. The panel includes a built-in snap feature that automatically aligns to the nearest screen edge when released within 48 pixels, keeping your workspace organized. Click the collapse arrow in the top-right corner to minimize the panel to a small icon bubble showing a gear emoji, preserving screen space while keeping the tool accessible. The panel is not resizable in this version, maintaining a consistent compact size that works on all screen resolutions. Press the Escape key to instantly hide the panel; press Escape again to restore it. All position, collapse state, and target allocation preferences are saved locally using GM_setValue and persist across browsing sessions.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz extension to function—the asset allocation overlay does not work standalone. Vanguard occasionally updates its page layouts and portfolio presentation formats, which may temporarily affect data extraction accuracy. The tool extracts allocation data from the visible page content; if portfolio data is loaded dynamically after page load, you may need to wait a moment or refresh the page for the panel to populate. The pie chart and allocation percentages are based on extracted data and are provided for informational purposes—always verify your actual portfolio allocation on the official Vanguard platform. Target allocation preferences are for personal tracking only and do not affect your Vanguard account. The tool does not store or transmit any data; all allocation data extraction, chart rendering, target preferences, and settings are processed and saved entirely within your browser. This tool is designed for personal portfolio analysis and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Vanguard or its parent company. Asset allocation is a key investment decision; always consult with qualified financial advisors for personalized advice.
