WHAT IT DOES

Voter Registration Deadline Badge automatically detects voter registration deadline information on election and government pages, extracts the deadline date, and calculates the number of days remaining. A compact, color-coded badge displays the days remaining — green for plenty of time, yellow for approaching, orange for soon, and red for urgent — helping you stay aware of registration deadlines. The badge also shows the location and the actual deadline date, and clicking it takes you to the nearest registration link on the page.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension works on any website that displays voter registration or election information. It functions on government election pages, voter registration portals, news articles about elections, and any page mentioning registration deadlines. The tool works across all domains and adapts to various date formats and page structures.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension and navigate to any page with voter registration deadline information. The tool automatically detects the deadline and displays a compact badge in the corner of the page showing the days remaining with color-coded urgency. Click the badge to jump to a registration link on the page. Use the overlay panel to customize the experience: toggle the deadline badge on or off, toggle days remaining display on or off, toggle location display on or off, choose the badge position (Top Right, Top Left, Bottom Right, or Bottom Left), and adjust the urgency thresholds for color changes. Click "Refresh Deadline" to manually re-scan the page for deadline information.

TECHNICAL SECTION — DEADLINE DETECTION AND COUNTDOWN ENGINE

The extension uses a multi-strategy detection engine to find voter registration deadlines on pages. It queries common deadline selectors (.registration-deadline, .voter-deadline, .deadline-date) and scans text for date patterns using multiple regex formats (MM/DD/YYYY, Month DD, YYYY, and natural language dates). The tool also extracts location information from surrounding text. Once a deadline date is found, the days remaining is calculated and color-coded using configurable urgency thresholds. The badge is created using DOM manipulation with inline CSS, and the countdown updates dynamically. Clicking the badge attempts to locate and navigate to a registration-related link on the page.

THE PANEL — DRAG / PER-SITE POSITION / SNAP / COLLAPSE / RESIZE / ESCAPE

The overlay panel is fully interactive and designed for seamless multitasking. Drag it anywhere on the screen using the handle at the top of the panel; the position is saved per site so it stays where you left it across sessions. The panel includes a snap-to-edge feature that gently anchors the overlay to the nearest screen edge when released. Click the collapse button to minimize the panel to a compact pill showing the current deadline status; expand it again with a single click. Resize the panel vertically by dragging the bottom-right corner to view more controls. Press the Escape key at any time to instantly close the overlay; it reappears on the next page navigation or refresh.

This extension requires the free BotGentz companion extension to function, as it provides the underlying content script injection and cross-origin communication framework. No personal data, browsing history, or location data is stored, transmitted, or shared. Settings are stored locally in your browser using GM_setValue and are never sent to any external server. The extension does not access or store login credentials, financial data, or personally identifiable information. The tool reads deadline information visible on the page and does not access any government API or private data. Deadline detection accuracy depends on the page structure and date format used by the specific website. The tool is for informational purposes only and should not be relied upon as the sole source of registration deadline information. Always verify deadlines with official sources.
