About this app

WHAT IT DOES

X Bookmark Folder Organizer is a browser extension that automatically scans the current X (Twitter) page for bookmarks, bookmark lists, and bookmark folders. It detects bookmark elements by examining class names, IDs, and data attributes for patterns like "[data-testid='bookmark']", "[aria-label*='Bookmark']", and bookmark-related selectors. The extension adds a floating organize button (📁) next to the bookmarks, providing quick access to folder management controls. Clicking the button opens a panel where you can organize bookmarks into folders, create custom folders, move bookmarks between folders, and store folder preferences locally. The panel displays the current bookmark's tweet text and its folder status. You can add the current bookmark to any existing folder, create new folders, move bookmarks between folders, or remove them from folders. The extension maintains a bookmark folder database with folder structure, bookmark history, notes, and tags. The main panel shows all folders with their bookmark counts and previews of the first few bookmarks. All data is stored locally in your browser using GM_setValue, ensuring your folder organization persists across page reloads and browser sessions. This helps X (Twitter) users who want to organize their bookmarks into custom collections for better content management and discovery.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension runs on any X (Twitter) page that displays bookmarks, bookmark lists, or bookmark folders – including X (Twitter) bookmark pages, tweet pages, and any page with bookmark controls. The extension intelligently adapts to different page structures and supports a wide range of common X display patterns. No manual configuration is required per site; the extension automatically detects bookmark elements using a flexible pattern matching system. This makes it ideal for X users who want to organize their bookmarks into folders.

HOW TO USE

Simply install the extension and navigate to any X (Twitter) page with bookmarks or bookmark controls. The extension automatically detects bookmark elements and shows an organize button (📁) next to the bookmarks. Click the button to open the bookmark organizer panel. The panel shows the current bookmark's tweet text and its folder status. Select a folder from the dropdown and click "Add to Folder" to add the current bookmark. Click "Create New Folder" to create a custom folder. If the bookmark is already in a folder, you can move it to a different folder or remove it. A floating button (📁) appears in the bottom-right corner of the page – click this to open the panel from anywhere. The panel also shows all your folders with bookmark counts and previews. Use the notes section to add notes about bookmark organization. The "Clear All Data" button removes all tracking data when needed.

ONE TECHNICAL SECTION – WHY IT WORKS

The extension uses DOM detection and local database management to organize bookmarks. The detection system uses a comprehensive set of CSS selectors targeting bookmark elements including "[data-testid='bookmark']", "[data-testid='unbookmark']", and aria-label patterns. The bookmark URL is extracted from the page URL, and the tweet text is extracted from tweet text selectors. The folder system uses a local database stored in GM_setValue, with each folder containing an array of bookmark objects with URL, tweet text, added timestamp, and notes. When adding a bookmark to a folder, the extension checks for duplicates by URL. The extension also supports moving bookmarks between folders by removing from the source folder and adding to the target folder. Default folders (Read Later, Important, Archive) are created on first use. The folder list is displayed with bookmark counts and previews. A MutationObserver detects dynamic content updates and re-scans only when new bookmark elements appear, balancing real-time accuracy with system performance.

THE PANEL – DRAG / PER-SITE POSITION / SNAP / COLLAPSE / RESIZE / ESCAPE

The bookmark organizer panel includes a draggable title bar, allowing you to position it anywhere on screen for convenient access during bookmark management. The extension remembers your preferred position per website, so the panel opens in the same location each time you return to that domain. The panel supports snap-to-edge behavior – when dragged near screen edges, it gently snaps into place for a tidy workspace layout. You can collapse the panel down to just its title bar by clicking the collapse button, keeping it accessible without taking up screen space. The folder management controls and bookmark list are contained within a scrollable body, ensuring all content remains accessible even on smaller screens. Pressing the Escape key closes the panel instantly, returning you to your X (Twitter) browsing workflow.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz extension to be installed and enabled, as it relies on BotGentz's userscript injection and GM_* API shims for cross-browser compatibility. Websites frequently update their HTML structures and class names, which may cause bookmark detection to break temporarily – we actively maintain the matching patterns and release updates regularly. The extension stores all folder data, bookmarks, notes, and history exclusively in your local browser storage (GM_setValue); no data is ever transmitted to any external server or third party. You are responsible for backing up your folder organization data if you switch browsers or clear your storage. The extension does not read, modify, or interfere with any X (Twitter) content or functionality beyond the bookmark display – it operates on the page content and stores only metadata (folder names, bookmark URLs, tweet texts, and notes) that you explicitly create. Use this tool responsibly and in accordance with X's Terms of Service.
