WHAT IT DOES

Food Network Web Recipe Box Organizer reads your saved recipes from the Food Network recipe box and presents them in a clean, sortable panel. Each recipe displays its name, cuisine type, and prep time. You can sort recipes by name, cuisine, or prep time. The extension tracks cooking status for each recipe with three options: "To Cook" (default), "Cooked" (completed), and "Favorite" (starred). A color-coded left border indicates the status—blue for to-cook, green for cooked, and yellow for favorites. A local note-taking feature lets you attach recipe notes, modifications, or serving suggestions. A tag system allows you to organize recipes by course, dietary restriction, season, or any custom category. A summary shows total recipes, cooked count, favorites, and unique cuisines.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension works on all Food Network pages at foodnetwork.com and its subdomains, specifically on the recipe box and saved recipes pages. It runs on the main recipe box view, the saved items section, and any page displaying saved recipe cards. The extension operates entirely within your browser and does not access Food Network's servers directly—it reads only what is visible on the page you are viewing. It works alongside the free BotGentz extension, which provides the necessary scripting environment.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension, then navigate to foodnetwork.com and open your recipe box. The extension automatically detects all saved recipes and displays them in a panel. Click the extension's icon in your browser toolbar to open the panel. Use the sort dropdown to sort by Name, Cuisine, or Prep Time. Click any recipe row to open it in a new tab. Use the status dropdown to change a recipe's status—To Cook, Cooked, or Favorite. Add notes using the note input field under each recipe. Add tags using the tag input field (comma-separated). The "Refresh" button manually updates the panel. The "Clear Local Data" button removes all local notes, tags, and statuses.

TEXT-BASED CUISINE DETECTION WITH PREP TIME PARSING

Unlike simple DOM scrapers that rely on fixed labels, this extension uses a text-based detection system that analyzes multiple sources to determine recipe attributes. The cuisine detection engine scans recipe text, category labels, and surrounding content for over 20 cuisine keywords (Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Thai, French, Japanese, Indian, Greek, Spanish, American, and more). The prep time parser extracts numeric values from text strings like "30 min," "45 minutes," or "1 hour," normalizing them to minutes for sorting. The recipe data is stored locally with a unique ID per recipe, allowing persistent tags, notes, and statuses across browsing sessions. The status tracking uses a dropdown selector with three states, each with distinct visual styling. This multi-source, text-based approach ensures reliable recipe detection across different page layouts and Food Network's evolving interface.

THE PANEL

The panel supports drag-to-move anywhere on the page. It remembers its position per site, so it stays where you placed it on foodnetwork.com. Click the panel header to collapse it down to just the minimized bubble, or click the expand handle to show the full panel. The panel can be resized by dragging the bottom-right corner. Press the Escape key to close the expanded panel and return to the minimized state. All panel settings, including position, size, collapsed state, sort preference, and recipe data (notes, tags, status), are saved per site and persist across browsing sessions.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz extension to be installed and active, as it provides the underlying DOM injection and script execution environment. Food Network's website changes periodically, and recipe element structures, class names, and page layouts may be updated. When that happens, the extension may stop detecting recipes until an update is released. The extension stores your sort preference and all recipe notes, tags, and statuses locally in your browser's storage using GM_setValue. Recipe data is stored as a key-value object where keys are recipe IDs. No data is ever sent to any server, and no personal information is collected. The extension does not read or store your Food Network login credentials, email, or any identifying information. You can clear all stored settings and recipe data at any time using the "Clear Local Data" button or by clearing your browser data for foodnetwork.com.
