WHAT IT DOES

onX Hunt Web Land Ownership Overlay automatically scans onX Hunt map pages and extracts land ownership data including landowner names, property boundaries, ownership types (Private, Public, BLM, USFS, State, County, Municipal, Tribal, Military), and parcel information for the current map view. The tool displays a floating overlay panel that summarizes land ownership in the viewed area with color-coded ownership type indicators—each ownership category appears with a colored dot and parcel count, making it easy to understand the ownership composition of the area at a glance. The panel includes a quick-reference ownership legend showing all ownership types with their corresponding colors. A toggle allows you to show or hide ownership overlays on the map. Private land boundaries are highlighted for quick identification. Your overlay visibility settings and filter preferences are saved automatically across sessions for a consistent experience.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension operates exclusively on onxmaps.com domain pages that contain map content—specifically pages with "/map" or "/hunt" in the URL path, or pages that display map views and land ownership information. It works alongside the free BotGentz companion extension, which provides the necessary DOM access and page interaction capabilities. The land ownership overlay runs entirely within your local browser instance and does not communicate with any external servers or APIs. All ownership data extraction, categorization, and preference storage occurs on your machine, ensuring your map activity and location preferences remain private. It supports all modern Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera) and Firefox when paired with the BotGentz bridge.

HOW TO USE

After installing both BotGentz and this land ownership overlay, navigate to any onX Hunt map page. Within 1-2 seconds, a panel appears in the bottom-right corner displaying a summary of land ownership for the current view. The "Summary" section shows the location name and total number of parcels detected. The "Ownership Types" section lists each ownership category with a colored dot and count of parcels, sorted from most to least common. The "Legend" section provides a quick reference showing all ownership types with their corresponding colors. Use the "Show ownership overlays" toggle to show or hide ownership overlays on the map—your preference is saved automatically. The panel provides a comprehensive overview of land ownership in the area, helping you quickly assess public and private land distribution for hunting planning.

LAND OWNERSHIP DATA EXTRACTION AND CATEGORIZATION

The land ownership overlay uses a multi-strategy extraction system to locate and parse ownership data from onX Hunt map pages. It first attempts to find structured ownership elements using selectors based on the site's typical class naming patterns, including "parcel-item," "property-item," "ownership-item," and "land-parcel." When these selectors fail due to site updates, the tool falls back to text-based parsing, scanning page content for ownership type keywords and patterns. The tool categorizes ownership using a comprehensive keyword mapping system: "private" or "owned" maps to Private, "public" or "open" to Public, "BLM" or "bureau of land management" to BLM, "USFS" or "forest service" to USFS, "state" or "state-owned" to State, "county" to County, "municipal" or "city" to Municipal, "tribal" or "native" to Tribal, and "military" to Military. Each parcel's owner name is extracted when available, and parcel size is captured when present in the page data. The tool compiles ownership counts by category and presents them in descending order for quick reference.

THE PANEL

The land ownership overlay panel is a compact, functional overlay that integrates into the onX Hunt map page. It can be dragged by clicking and holding the title bar, positioning the panel anywhere on the screen for optimal visibility while you explore the map. The panel includes a built-in snap feature that automatically aligns to the nearest screen edge when released within 48 pixels, keeping your workspace organized. Click the collapse arrow in the top-right corner to minimize the panel to a small icon bubble showing a gear emoji, preserving screen space while keeping the tool accessible. The panel is not resizable in this version, maintaining a consistent compact size that works on all screen resolutions. Press the Escape key to instantly hide the panel; press Escape again to restore it. All position, collapse state, and overlay visibility preferences are saved locally using GM_setValue and persist across browsing sessions.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz extension to function—the land ownership overlay does not work standalone. onX Hunt occasionally updates its page layouts and map presentation formats, which may temporarily affect ownership data extraction accuracy. The tool extracts ownership data from the visible page content; if ownership information is loaded dynamically after map render, you may need to wait a moment or refresh the page for the panel to populate. Ownership type categorization is based on keyword matching and may not capture all ownership designations accurately. The tool does not store or transmit any data; all ownership data extraction, categorization, and settings are processed and saved entirely within your browser.
