WHAT IT DOES

BoatUS Web Membership Benefit Overlay automatically scans BoatUS membership and benefit pages to extract comprehensive benefit data including benefit category, detailed description, savings amount, eligibility requirements, and partner merchant names. A floating overlay panel displays a categorized summary of all available membership benefits with running savings totals, making it easy to see the full value of your membership at a glance. The most valuable benefits are highlighted based on savings amount, helping you prioritize which benefits to use first. You can track which benefits you have already used by clicking a toggle button next to each benefit, and your usage status is saved across sessions. Benefit categories include towing, insurance, discounts, boating education, safety programs, and travel benefits, each with its own section for quick reference. The panel calculates and displays total potential savings from all available benefits, giving you a clear picture of your membership's return on investment.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension operates exclusively on boatus.com domain pages that contain membership benefit content—specifically pages with "/membership/", "/benefits/", or "/member-benefits/" in the URL path, or pages that display benefit listings and membership information. It works alongside the free BotGentz companion extension, which provides the necessary DOM access and page interaction capabilities. The benefit overlay runs entirely within your local browser instance and does not communicate with any external servers or APIs. All benefit data extraction, categorization, and usage tracking occurs on your machine, ensuring your membership activity and usage history remain private. It supports all modern Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera) and Firefox when paired with the BotGentz bridge.

HOW TO USE

After installing both BotGentz and this benefit overlay, navigate to any BoatUS membership benefit page. Within 1-2 seconds, a panel appears in the bottom-right corner displaying a "Summary" section with total benefits count, used benefits count, number of categories, and total potential savings. The "Benefits" section lists all benefits organized by category—Towing, Insurance, Discounts, Education, Safety, Travel, and Other—with each benefit showing its title, savings amount or discount percentage, and merchant name when available. Click the "☐ Use" button next to any benefit to mark it as used; it will change to "✔ Used" and the benefit will be crossed out in the list. Your usage status is saved automatically and persists across sessions. Use the "Reset All Usage" button to clear all usage tracking and start fresh. All benefit data is extracted from the visible page content, providing a quick reference to your membership's full value.

BENEFIT DATA EXTRACTION AND CATEGORIZATION

The benefit overlay uses a multi-strategy extraction system to locate and parse membership benefit data from BoatUS pages. It first attempts to find structured benefit elements using selectors based on the site's typical class naming patterns, including "benefit-item," "benefit-card," "membership-benefit," and "benefit-block." When these selectors fail due to site updates, the tool falls back to scanning page content for benefit-like text patterns, looking for elements that contain dollar amounts, percentage discounts, or savings-related keywords. Each benefit is analyzed to extract its title from heading elements, description from description or detail elements, savings amount through pattern matching for dollar values, and percent discounts through pattern matching for percentage-off labels. Merchant names are extracted through pattern matching for "at," "via," or "with" followed by a capitalized name. Benefits are automatically categorized using a keyword-based classification system: "towing" keywords map to Towing, "insurance" keywords to Insurance, "discount/save/off" to Discounts, "education/course/class" to Education, "safety/inspection" to Safety, "travel/hotel/lodging" to Travel, with benefits that don't match any category assigned to Other.

THE PANEL

The benefit overlay panel is a compact, functional overlay that integrates into the BoatUS membership page. It can be dragged by clicking and holding the title bar, positioning the panel anywhere on the screen for optimal visibility while you review your benefits. The panel includes a built-in snap feature that automatically aligns to the nearest screen edge when released within 48 pixels, keeping your workspace organized. Click the collapse arrow in the top-right corner to minimize the panel to a small icon bubble showing a gear emoji, preserving screen space while keeping the tool accessible. The panel is not resizable in this version, maintaining a consistent compact size that works on all screen resolutions. Press the Escape key to instantly hide the panel; press Escape again to restore it. All position, collapse state, and benefit usage tracking data are saved locally using GM_setValue and persist across browsing sessions.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz extension to function—the benefit overlay does not work standalone. BoatUS occasionally updates its page layouts and benefit presentation formats, which may temporarily affect data extraction accuracy. The tool extracts benefit data from the visible page content; if benefit information is loaded dynamically after page load, you may need to wait a moment or refresh the page for the panel to populate. Savings amounts and discount percentages are extracted as displayed on the page and are provided for informational purposes—always verify benefit details on the official BoatUS website. The usage tracking feature is for personal record-keeping only and does not affect your actual BoatUS membership account. The tool does not store or transmit any data; all benefit data extraction, categorization, usage tracking, and settings are processed and saved entirely within your browser.
