About this app

WHAT IT DOES

Canvas LMS Grade Calculator Overlay automatically detects assignment grades and weights on Canvas grade pages, calculating your current grade and weighted average. A compact overlay badge displays your current grade as a percentage or letter grade. The tool also includes a what-if calculator that lets you see how future assignment scores would affect your overall grade — simply enter a score and possible points to see the impact. This helps you plan your study efforts and understand exactly what you need to achieve your desired grade.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension works exclusively on Canvas LMS at *.instructure.com. It functions on grade pages, assignment pages, and any page displaying grades or assignment information. The tool works across all Canvas instances and adapts to various grade display formats.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension and navigate to your Canvas grade page. A compact grade badge appears in the corner showing your current grade. Click the badge to open the what-if calculator — enter a score and possible points for a future assignment to see how it would affect your grade. Use the overlay panel to customize the experience: toggle the grade badge on or off, toggle the what-if calculator on or off, choose the grade scale (Percentage or Letter Grade), toggle assignment weight display on or off, and click "Refresh Grade" to manually update the grade. The status area shows your current grade percentage.

TECHNICAL SECTION — GRADE DETECTION AND CALCULATION ENGINE

The extension uses a multi-strategy detection engine to find assignment grades and weights on Canvas pages. It scans the grade table for assignment names, scores, possible points, and weight percentages using text parsing and regex matching. The grade calculation engine supports both weighted and unweighted grade systems, computing the overall grade based on the sum of points earned and possible points. For weighted systems, it calculates the weighted average using assignment weights. The what-if calculator allows users to input hypothetical scores for future assignments, updating the grade projection in real-time. The badge is created using DOM manipulation with inline CSS and updates dynamically as grades change.

THE PANEL — DRAG / PER-SITE POSITION / SNAP / COLLAPSE / RESIZE / ESCAPE

The overlay panel is fully interactive and designed for seamless multitasking. Drag it anywhere on the screen using the handle at the top of the panel; the position is saved per site so it stays where you left it across sessions. The panel includes a snap-to-edge feature that gently anchors the overlay to the nearest screen edge when released. Click the collapse button to minimize the panel to a compact pill showing the current grade; expand it again with a single click. Resize the panel vertically by dragging the bottom-right corner to view more controls. Press the Escape key at any time to instantly close the overlay; it reappears on the next page navigation or refresh.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz companion extension to function, as it provides the underlying content script injection and cross-origin communication framework. No personal data, browsing history, or grade information is stored, transmitted, or shared. Settings are stored locally in your browser using GM_setValue and are never sent to any external server. The extension does not access or store login credentials, financial data, or personally identifiable information. The tool reads grade information visible on the page and does not access Canvas's API or any private data. Canvas may update its page structure; the extension includes multiple detection strategies to maintain compatibility, but major redesigns may temporarily affect grade detection. Grade calculations are estimates based on visible data and should be verified against official Canvas grades.
