College Application Deadline Tracker Overlay

WHAT IT DOES This userscript helps students track college application deadlines by scanning college pages and extracting key dates. It scans college application pages, college websites, or application portals for deadlines—application deadline, financial aid deadline, scholarship deadlines, and decision notification dates. It displays a visual panel showing a countdown to each deadline, categorized by school and deadline type. It extracts dates from text, calculates time remaining, highlights urgent deadlines (within 7 days in red, within 30 days in orange), and allows users to add custom deadlines and notes. The script tracks application status (Not Started, In Progress, Submitted), generates a timeline view, and exports the deadline tracker as CSV or HTML. It also sends reminders when deadlines are approaching. WHERE IT RUNS The script works on college application pages, college websites, application portals, and any page with deadline dates. It runs entirely within your browser, reading only the visible content of the current page. It does not track your browsing history, access other tabs, or send any data externally. All deadline data is processed and stored locally. HOW TO USE After installation, open the panel by clicking the tool's icon in the BotGentz sidebar. Click "Scan page for deadlines" to extract deadlines from the current page—the script detects schools, deadline types, and dates. The panel displays each deadline with school name, deadline type, date, days remaining, and urgency color coding. Use the status dropdown to track progress (Not Started, In Progress, Submitted). Manually add deadlines using the "Add Deadline" form with school name, type, date, and status. Use the export dropdown to choose your format—CSV or HTML (report). Click "Export" to download. THE TECHNICAL MECHANISM This script uses text extraction to identify deadlines from page content. It scans for school names using patterns like "University", "College", "School", "Institute", "Tech". It detects deadline types by matching keywords—Application, Financial Aid, Scholarship, Decision Notification. Dates are parsed using multiple date formats (MM/DD/YYYY, YYYY-MM-DD, and named month formats). The countdown calculation finds days remaining and assigns urgency: Past Due (60 days). Status tracking is managed through a dropdown. The HTML export generates a styled report with color-coded urgency and all deadline details. All data is persisted using GM_setValue. THE PANEL The panel is draggable anywhere on the screen and remembers its position between sessions. It can be collapsed to a small floating bubble to minimize distraction, and expanded again with a single click. The panel's width can be adjusted, and pressing the Escape key closes it instantly. All settings and deadline data are persisted locally using GM_setValue, so your tracker remains intact across page reloads and browser restarts. PLEASE NOTE This userscript requires the free BotGentz extension to function. The script extracts deadlines from page text—it may not capture all deadlines correctly. Review and adjust extracted deadlines as needed. The date parsing handles common formats but may not catch all variations. The script does not access external APIs or store any data outside your browser. No data from your browsing is stored or transmitted anywhere—all processing occurs entirely in your browser.
