About this app

WHAT IT DOES

Course Syllabus Deadline Extractor automatically detects course syllabi, assignment schedules, and deadline tables on any webpage — including PDF syllabi, course websites, and learning management systems. The tool extracts dates, assignment names, and course names, displaying them in a compact, sortable list. Export deadlines directly to your calendar using ICS format, or download them as CSV for use in spreadsheets. This saves hours of manual data entry and helps you keep track of all your course deadlines in one place.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension works on any website that displays course syllabi, assignment schedules, or deadline information. It functions on university course pages, learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle), PDF syllabi viewed in the browser, and any page with tables or lists containing dates. The tool works across all domains and adapts to various layout formats.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension and navigate to any course syllabus or schedule page. Click "Extract Deadlines" to scan the page for dates and assignment names. The extracted deadlines appear in a sorted list in the overlay panel. Use the overlay panel to customize the experience: toggle extraction from tables on or off, toggle extraction from lists on or off, and choose your export format. Click "Export as ICS" to download a calendar file that can be imported into Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook. Click "Export as CSV" to download a spreadsheet-ready file. The status area shows how many deadlines were found.

TECHNICAL SECTION — DEADLINE DETECTION AND EXTRACTION ENGINE

The extension uses a multi-strategy detection engine to find deadlines on syllabi and schedule pages. It scans tables for rows containing date patterns, checking each cell for dates and extracting assignment names from adjacent cells. It also scans lists (ul, ol) and paragraphs for date patterns, extracting the surrounding text as assignment names. The tool uses regex to parse multiple date formats including MM/DD/YYYY, YYYY-MM-DD, and month-name formats. The extracted data is deduplicated and displayed in a sortable list. The ICS export generates a valid iCalendar file with each deadline as a VEVENT, and the CSV export creates a structured spreadsheet with course, assignment, and date columns.

THE PANEL — DRAG / PER-SITE POSITION / SNAP / COLLAPSE / RESIZE / ESCAPE

The overlay panel is fully interactive and designed for seamless multitasking. Drag it anywhere on the screen using the handle at the top of the panel; the position is saved per site so it stays where you left it across sessions. The panel includes a snap-to-edge feature that gently anchors the overlay to the nearest screen edge when released. Click the collapse button to minimize the panel to a compact pill showing the current deadline count; expand it again with a single click. Resize the panel vertically by dragging the bottom-right corner to view more deadlines. Press the Escape key at any time to instantly close the overlay; it reappears on the next page navigation or refresh.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz companion extension to function, as it provides the underlying content script injection and cross-origin communication framework. No personal data, browsing history, or syllabus content is stored, transmitted, or shared. All text processing and extraction occurs entirely locally in your browser; no information is sent to any external server. Settings are stored locally in your browser using GM_setValue and are never sent to any external server. The extension does not access or store login credentials, financial data, or personally identifiable information. The tool reads content visible on the page and does not access any LMS API or private data. Page structures vary widely; the tool includes multiple detection strategies to maintain compatibility, but some complex syllabi may not be fully parsed. Always verify extracted deadlines against the original syllabus.
