WHAT IT DOES

Email Formality Adjuster reads your drafted email or selected text and rewrites it at your chosen formality level—Informal (casual, conversational), Neutral (balanced, professional), or Formal (polished, structured). It preserves all key information, intent, and meaning while adjusting vocabulary, sentence structure, tone, and phrasing. Whether you're writing to a friend, a colleague, or a client, this tool ensures your message hits the right tone without rewriting it from scratch. Perfect for business emails, customer communications, job applications, and any message where tone matters.

WHERE IT RUNS

Any webpage with text fields, selected text, or draft content—Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo Mail, LinkedIn messages, Slack, and more. Works with standard textareas, input fields, and contenteditable elements. If you can type it or select it, this tool can adjust its formality.

HOW TO USE

Install the script and navigate to your draft or any text. Select the text you want to adjust, or click into the field containing your draft. Click "Get Text" in the panel—the tool detects your selected text or field content. Choose your formality level (Informal, Neutral, or Formal). Toggle "Preserve key details" to keep all factual information intact. Click "Get Text" to process—the adjusted version appears in the panel. Review it, edit if needed, then click "Replace" to update your field or "Copy" to paste it elsewhere. Settings persist per site and globally—the tool remembers your formality and details preferences. Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+Shift+F to adjust, Ctrl+Shift+R to regenerate, Ctrl+Shift+I to replace the current field with the adjusted text.

TECHNICAL MECHANISM

The script detects input sources in priority order: selected text via window.getSelection(), active field via document.activeElement (filtering out password, hidden, and file inputs), or any textarea on the page. The detected text is sent to the BotGentz AI backend via GM_xmlhttpRequest with a structured prompt that includes the target formality level (informal/neutral/formal) and the preserve details toggle. The prompt instructs the model to adjust vocabulary, sentence structure, tone, and phrasing appropriately while preserving key information and intent. The response is displayed in a textarea, and replacement uses native value setting with both "input" and "change" events to ensure React and Vue applications update correctly. Settings persist via GM_setValue with per-site overrides for formality level and details preference. The script prefers WebMCP (navigator.modelContext) when available, falling back to DOM scraping when not.

THE PANEL

The tool runs inside BGPanel, a lightweight UI system built into the BotGentz extension. Drag the panel by its header to reposition it anywhere on screen—it snaps to edges and remembers its position per site. Click the header to collapse the panel into a small bubble; click again to expand. Resize the panel by dragging its bottom-right corner. Press Escape at any time to close the panel. The panel stays out of your way but is always accessible via the extension's toolbar.

PLEASE NOTE

Requires the free BotGentz browser extension and an active monthly subscription—the AI backend uses credits for each generation. One generation per click; regenerate counts as a new generation. The script reads only visible text fields and selected content—it cannot access iframes or shadow DOM. AI-generated adjustments are suggestions—always review and edit before sending. No text content is stored or shared beyond the API request; all processing is ephemeral. Sites change over time, but this script relies on standard DOM APIs, not site-specific selectors, so it remains robust across most pages.
