WHAT IT DOES

Gmail Bulk Label Applier is a browser extension that automatically scans the current webpage for Gmail email threads, message rows, subject lines, and label indicators. It detects Gmail email elements by examining class names, IDs, data attributes, and text patterns for subject lines, sender addresses, and Gmail-specific class patterns (zA, zE, zF, yW, xW, y6). The extension adds a floating "bulk label" button (🏷️) next to each detected email element, allowing you to select individual emails for bulk labeling, capture email subject, message ID, sender, and current labels. Clicking the button toggles the selection state, and selected emails are added to a bulk collection. The main panel allows you to enter labels to apply (comma-separated), choose an operation mode (Add labels, Replace all labels, or Remove labels), add notes about the labeling reason, and apply the labels to all selected emails in configurable batches. The extension updates label indicators on the page and logs each label change to the local database with added labels, removed labels, notes, and tag groups. The main panel displays all saved label changes with email subjects, senders, added/removed labels, notes, and tags. All data is stored locally in your browser using GM_setValue, ensuring your label history persists across page reloads and browser sessions. This helps Gmail power users, email managers, and professionals to perform bulk label application directly from email lists without using third-party tools, saving time on email organization and folder management.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension runs on any Gmail page that displays email threads, message rows, subject lines, or label indicators – including Gmail inbox, label views, search results, and any page containing Gmail email data. The extension intelligently adapts to different page structures and supports a wide range of common Gmail display patterns. No manual configuration is required per site; the extension automatically detects email elements using a flexible pattern matching system. This makes it ideal for Gmail power users, email managers, and professionals who need to perform bulk labeling directly from the Gmail UI.

HOW TO USE

Simply install the extension and navigate to any Gmail page displaying emails. The extension automatically detects email elements and places a small "bulk label" button (🏷️) next to each one. Click any of these buttons to select that email for bulk labeling – the button highlights to show it's selected. Click it again to deselect. As you select emails, a counter at the bottom-right shows how many you've collected. When ready, click the floating button (📌) to open the main panel. Enter the labels you want to apply (comma-separated). Choose the operation mode: "Add labels" to append labels, "Replace all labels" to overwrite existing labels, or "Remove labels" to delete specific labels. Add a note about the labeling reason and optional tag group for organization. Click "Apply Labels to Selected" to start the bulk labeling process – the extension processes emails in batches (configurable size, default 10) to avoid performance issues, updating each email's labels and logging the change. The panel also displays your label history for reference. Use the settings section to enable or disable auto-detection and set the batch size. The "Clear All History" button removes all tracking data when needed.

ONE TECHNICAL SECTION – WHY IT WORKS

The extension employs a multi-layered detection system that identifies Gmail email information with high accuracy. First, it scans the DOM using a comprehensive set of CSS selectors targeting common email-related class patterns, IDs, and data attributes, including Gmail-specific patterns like zA, zE, zF, yW, xW, and y6. The message ID extraction identifies unique email identifiers from data attributes and URL links. The subject extraction identifies email subjects from text patterns and data attributes. The sender extraction identifies senders from text patterns and data attributes. The current labels extraction uses multiple strategies: scanning for label indicators in text, examining label badge elements, and reading data attributes. Each tracked email is assigned a unique ID based on the message ID, ensuring that history stays correctly associated. The bulk label process uses a batched approach with configurable batch size (default 10), processing emails in sequential batches with 300ms delays between batches to avoid performance issues. Three operation modes are supported: add (appends labels to existing), replace (overwrites all labels), and remove (deletes specific labels). A MutationObserver detects dynamic content updates and re-scans only when new email elements appear, balancing real-time accuracy with system performance.

THE PANEL – DRAG / PER-SITE POSITION / SNAP / COLLAPSE / RESIZE / ESCAPE

The bulk label application panel includes a draggable title bar, allowing you to position it anywhere on screen for convenient access during email management. The extension remembers your preferred position per website, so the panel opens in the same location each time you return to that domain. The panel supports snap-to-edge behavior – when dragged near screen edges, it gently snaps into place for a tidy workspace layout. You can collapse the panel down to just its title bar by clicking the collapse button, keeping it accessible without taking up screen space. The label history and settings are contained within a scrollable body, ensuring all content remains accessible even on smaller screens. Pressing the Escape key closes the panel instantly, returning you to your Gmail workflow.

This extension requires the free BotGentz extension to be installed and enabled, as it relies on BotGentz's userscript injection and GM_* API shims for cross-browser compatibility. Websites frequently update their HTML structures and class names, which may cause email detection to break temporarily – we actively maintain the matching patterns and release updates regularly. The extension stores all label data, label history, and notes exclusively in your local browser storage (GM_setValue); no data is ever transmitted to any external server or third party. This extension is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google or Gmail. You are responsible for backing up your label history data if you switch browsers or clear your storage. The extension does not read, modify, or interfere with any Gmail data, emails, or functionality beyond the page content – it operates on the static page content and stores only metadata (message IDs, subjects, senders, label changes, and notes) that you explicitly create.
