Pet Food Ingredient Quality Badge

WHAT IT DOES This userscript helps pet owners make informed decisions by analyzing the ingredient quality of pet food products. It scans product pages—from Chewy, Amazon, Petco, and brand sites—to extract the ingredient list, then evaluates each ingredient against a built-in quality database. High-quality protein sources like "chicken meal" or "salmon" receive high scores, while fillers like "corn", "wheat", and "soy" receive low scores, and artificial preservatives like "BHA", "BHT", and "ethoxyquin" are flagged as concerns. The script assigns an overall quality score from 0–100, a letter grade (A, B, C, D, F), and provides a summary of the food's nutritional quality, including an estimated protein percentage, counts of fillers and preservatives, and a color-coded badge that appears on the page. WHERE IT RUNS The script works on any webpage containing pet food ingredient lists—retailer product pages, brand websites, review sites, or any page with ingredient text. It runs entirely within your browser, reading only the visible text content of the current page. It does not track your browsing history, access other tabs, or send any data externally. No external APIs are called—all ingredient analysis is performed locally using a curated database. HOW TO USE After installation, open the panel by clicking the tool's icon in the BotGentz sidebar. The script automatically scans pet food pages on load (you can toggle this off). A badge appears in the top-right corner showing the grade, score, and summary. Click the badge to expand the panel for more details, or click the ✕ to dismiss it temporarily. You can select your pet type (Dog or Cat) to tailor the scoring emphasis, and choose between a "Full badge with details" or a "Compact badge (grade only)". Use the "Analyze pet food" button to manually re-scan at any time, or "Clear badge" to remove the analysis. THE TECHNICAL MECHANISM This script uses a tiered ingredient analysis pipeline. First, it extracts ingredient lists from page text by scanning for keywords like "ingredient", "contains", "composition", and "nutrition", then splits text into individual ingredient terms. Each ingredient is normalized and matched against a three-tier database: high-quality (e.g., "chicken meal", "salmon", "lamb"), moderate-quality (e.g., "brown rice", "peas", "flaxseed"), and low-quality (e.g., "corn", "wheat", "by-product", "BHA", "artificial flavor"). Each tier has an associated score: high-quality items score 85–98, moderate 50–70, low 5–25. Unknown ingredients receive a default score of 40.
