About this app

WHAT IT DOES

Prime Video Playback Speed Control detects the HTML5 video player on Prime Video and gives you full control over playback speed. Set custom speeds from 0.25x to 3.0x with fine-grained control using keyboard shortcuts. A compact speed badge displays the current speed and can be clicked to cycle through presets. The tool remembers your preferred speed across sessions and automatically applies it when you start watching. Whether you want to speed through content at 2x or slow down for detailed viewing at 0.75x, this tool puts you in control.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension works exclusively on Prime Video at www.primevideo.com. It functions on the video player during content playback, including movies, TV shows, and any video content. The tool works across all Prime Video regions and adapts to the player's dynamic interface.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension and start playing any content on Prime Video. The tool automatically detects the video player and applies your default speed. A compact speed badge appears in the bottom-right corner showing the current speed — click it to cycle through preset speeds (0.5x, 0.75x, 1.0x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, 2.0x). Use keyboard shortcuts: Q to decrease speed by 0.1x, E to increase speed by 0.1x, and W to reset to 1.0x. Use the overlay panel to customize the experience: choose a default playback speed from the presets, adjust the speed step increment, toggle the speed badge visibility on or off, and enable or disable keyboard shortcuts. Click "Show Badge" or "Hide Badge" to manually control badge visibility.

TECHNICAL SECTION — VIDEO DETECTION AND SPEED CONTROL

The extension uses a multi-strategy detection engine to find the HTML5 video element on Prime Video pages. It queries for video elements directly and also searches inside shadow DOM containers used by some video players. Once the video element is found, the tool sets the playbackRate property and monitors for ratechange events to keep the badge in sync. A MutationObserver watches for DOM changes to detect when the video player is recreated during navigation, automatically re-applying the user's preferred speed. The speed badge is a fixed-position element that displays the current speed and cycles through presets on click. Keyboard shortcuts are captured at the document level with input field detection to prevent interference with typing. All speed preferences are persisted using GM_setValue and restored on page load.

THE PANEL — DRAG / PER-SITE POSITION / SNAP / COLLAPSE / RESIZE / ESCAPE

The overlay panel is fully interactive and designed for seamless multitasking. Drag it anywhere on the screen using the handle at the top of the panel; the position is saved per site so it stays where you left it across sessions. The panel includes a snap-to-edge feature that gently anchors the overlay to the nearest screen edge when released. Click the collapse button to minimize the panel to a compact pill showing the current speed status; expand it again with a single click. Resize the panel vertically by dragging the bottom-right corner to view more controls. Press the Escape key at any time to instantly close the overlay; it reappears on the next page navigation or refresh.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz companion extension to function, as it provides the underlying content script injection and cross-origin communication framework. No personal data, browsing history, or viewing activity is stored, transmitted, or shared. Settings are stored locally in your browser using GM_setValue and are never sent to any external server. The extension does not access or store login credentials, financial data, or personally identifiable information. The tool modifies the playbackRate property of the HTML5 video element and does not access Prime Video's API or any private data. Prime Video may update its video player interface; the extension includes multiple detection strategies to maintain compatibility, but major redesigns may temporarily affect video detection. Playback speed changes may affect audio pitch and sync; most browsers handle this automatically.
