About this app

WHAT IT DOES

Serial Fiction Update Notifier helps you keep up with your favorite ongoing stories on fan fiction and serial fiction sites. The script monitors stories you're following and tracks chapter counts, last updated dates, and chapter lists. When you visit a story page, a visual badge shows how many new chapters have been published since your last visit. The watchlist displays all your tracked stories with current chapter counts, update status (complete, ongoing, or hiatus), and last update dates. When new chapters are published, you receive a browser notification with the story title and chapter count. The update timeline shows recent chapter releases with dates and titles, helping you see the story's update pattern. Reading progress tracking lets you record your last read chapter. You can filter the watchlist by story status and view update frequency statistics.

WHERE IT RUNS

This script runs on major serial fiction sites including Archive of Our Own (AO3), FanFiction.net, Wattpad, Quotev, FictionPress, Royal Road, and Scribble Hub. It works on story pages, chapter views, and author pages, automatically detecting story metadata and chapter counts. The script adapts to each site's specific layout.

HOW TO USE

After installing through the BotGentz extension, navigate to any story page on a supported site. The script automatically detects the story and adds it to your watchlist if auto-add is enabled. A badge appears showing the chapter count and update status. Use the configuration panel to customize your experience: toggle the update badge on or off, show or hide the watchlist, set the check interval in hours for automatic updates, enable or disable notifications, show or hide the update timeline, enable or disable auto-add to watchlist, and set the maximum number of tracked stories. The panel displays real-time statistics including total tracked stories, complete, ongoing, and hiatus counts. Use the "Check Now" button to manually check all stories for updates, or "Clear Watchlist" to remove all tracked stories.

PLATFORM-ADAPTIVE METADATA EXTRACTION WITH AUTOMATIC UPDATE DETECTION

This script implements a metadata extraction engine with platform-specific selectors for each supported serial fiction site. The engine extracts story title, author, chapter count, last updated date, and status using CSS selectors tailored to each site's structure. The watchlist storage system uses GM_setValue with a structured format that stores story metadata, chapter history, and timestamps. The update detection engine compares current chapter counts against stored values when visiting a story page, calculating the number of new chapters since last visit. The notification system triggers GM_notification when new chapters are detected, with the story title and chapter count. The timeline feature stores chapter release dates and titles, enabling historical update tracking. The filtering system allows users to view stories by status (complete, ongoing, hiatus).

THE PANEL

The configuration panel is fully draggable and remembers its position per-site using GM_setValue. It snaps to screen edges when dragged near them, collapses to a compact bubble when minimized, and supports Escape key for quick collapse. All settings—including badge visibility, watchlist display, check interval, notifications, timeline display, auto-add, and max tracked—are persisted across sessions.

PLEASE NOTE

This script requires the free BotGentz extension to run. The script runs on supported serial fiction sites and reads story metadata to track updates. It does not capture, store, or transmit any personal information. All watchlist data is stored locally in your browser using GM_setValue and never transmitted to external servers. The script only tracks stories you visit or add to your watchlist. Update detection relies on chapter counts displayed on the page and may not detect all types of updates. This tool is provided for organizational and informational purposes only.
