WHAT IT DOES

Territory Assignment Helper is a browser extension that automatically scans the current webpage for territory names, region assignments, sales areas, account ownership, and distributor allocations. It detects territory-related elements by examining class names, IDs, data attributes, and text patterns for keywords like "territory", "region", "area", "sales", "coverage", "district", "zone", "local", "national", or "global". The extension adds a floating "track territory" button (🗺️) next to each detected territory element, allowing you to capture territory name, assigned owner or team, region type, and custom notes with a single click. Clicking the button opens a panel where you can enter the owner/team, select or enter the region type, add notes about coverage gaps, overlap issues, reassignment needs, or any other relevant details, and save it to your local database. The extension maintains a complete territory database per region with assignment history, owner changes, and notes for each tracked territory. The main panel displays all tracked territories, showing the territory name, current owner, region type, entry count, and latest note. All data is stored locally in your browser using GM_setValue, ensuring your territory assignment information persists across page reloads and browser sessions. This helps sales managers, territory planners, operations teams, and anyone managing geographic or market territories to track assignments, monitor ownership changes, and document coverage across regions.

This extension runs on any webpage that displays territory names, region assignments, sales areas, account ownership, or distributor allocations – including CRM systems, territory management platforms, sales dashboards, account planning tools, and any page containing territory or region information. The extension intelligently adapts to different page structures and supports a wide range of common territory display patterns. No manual configuration is required per site; the extension automatically detects territory elements using a flexible pattern matching system. This makes it ideal for sales teams, operations teams, and territory managers who need to track and manage territorial coverage.

HOW TO USE

Simply install the extension and navigate to any webpage displaying territory or region information. The extension automatically detects territory elements and places a small "track territory" button (🗺️) next to each one. Click any of these buttons to open the territory tracking panel with the territory name pre-filled. Enter the assigned owner or team, specify the region type, add a note about coverage gaps, overlap issues, or any other relevant detail, then click "Save Territory" to store it in your local database. A floating button (🌍) appears in the bottom-right corner of the page – click this to open the main panel. The main panel shows all tracked territories, sorted by most recent entry, with territory name, owner, region type, entry count, and latest note displayed. Use the settings section to enable or disable auto-detection. The "Clear All Data" button removes all tracking data when needed.

ONE TECHNICAL SECTION – WHY IT WORKS

The extension employs a multi-layered detection system that identifies territory information with high accuracy. First, it scans the DOM using a comprehensive set of CSS selectors targeting common territory-related class patterns, IDs, and data attributes like "territory", "region", "area", "sales", "coverage", "district", and "zone". Second, it uses a TreeWalker to examine text nodes for territory-related text patterns, capturing territory information that may not be wrapped in typical territory elements. The territory name extraction uses a pattern-matching engine with multiple strategies: detecting text following keywords like "territory:", "region:", or "area:", using data attributes, and extracting names from list items. The owner extraction identifies assigned owners or teams from text following keywords like "owner:", "assigned:", "team:", "rep:", or "salesperson:", as well as from data attributes. The region type detection analyzes text content for region category keywords (Directional, National, Local, Enterprise, District) and data attributes. Each tracked territory is assigned a unique ID based on the territory name, ensuring that history stays correctly associated even when the same territory appears in different contexts. A MutationObserver detects dynamic content updates and re-scans only when new territory elements appear, balancing real-time accuracy with system performance.

THE PANEL – DRAG / PER-SITE POSITION / SNAP / COLLAPSE / RESIZE / ESCAPE

The territory tracking panel includes a draggable title bar, allowing you to position it anywhere on screen for convenient access during territory planning. The extension remembers your preferred position per website, so the panel opens in the same location each time you return to that domain. The panel supports snap-to-edge behavior – when dragged near screen edges, it gently snaps into place for a tidy workspace layout. You can collapse the panel down to just its title bar by clicking the collapse button, keeping it accessible without taking up screen space. The territory list and history are contained within a scrollable body, ensuring all content remains accessible even on smaller screens. Pressing the Escape key closes the panel instantly, returning you to your territory planning workflow.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz extension to be installed and enabled, as it relies on BotGentz's userscript injection and GM_* API shims for cross-browser compatibility. Websites frequently update their HTML structures and class names, which may cause territory detection to break temporarily – we actively maintain the matching patterns and release updates regularly. The extension stores all territory data, assignment history, and notes exclusively in your local browser storage (GM_setValue); no data is ever transmitted to any external server or third party. You are responsible for backing up your territory tracking data if you switch browsers or clear your storage. The extension does not read, modify, or interfere with any territory management systems, CRM data, or site functionality – it operates solely on the static page content and stores only metadata (territory names, owners, region types, and notes) that you explicitly create. Use this tool responsibly for internal territory management and sales planning purposes.
