WHAT IT DOES
Token Utility Plain-English Explainer analyzes a token's on-chain functions and explains what it actually does before you invest. The tool reads the token contract to detect governance features (voting, proposals), staking functions (staking, rewards), burn mechanisms, fee/tax functions, owner controls, mint capability, and upgradeability status. It then calculates a utility score (None, Basic, Moderate, or Strong) based on the detected features. The tool then uses AI to generate a plain-language explanation of the token's utility: what the token actually does on-chain, what it can be used for, whether it has meaningful utility or appears to be a memecoin, and any concerning patterns like only transfer/approve functions, upgradeable contracts, owner controls, or mint functions. Results include a risk level, utility score, token details, detected utility features, risk features, flags, and a comprehensive AI-generated explanation. The tool operates entirely read-only — no transactions are sent, no signatures are required. The AI assessment is designed to help you distinguish between tokens with real utility and memecoins before you invest.
HOW TO USE
Connect your EVM wallet using the "Connect" button in the header. Select the network where the token is deployed from the dropdown menu. Enter the token contract address you wish to analyze. Optionally enter the token name if you know it. Click "Explain token utility" to begin the analysis. The tool reads the contract bytecode to detect governance, staking, burn, fee, owner, mint, and upgradeability functions, calculates a utility score, and sends the data to the AI for a plain-English utility explanation. Results appear within seconds, showing the token contract, chain, risk level, utility score, token name and symbol, total supply, on-chain utility features with pass/fail indicators, risk features, flags, and a comprehensive AI-generated explanation written in clear, conversational language.
UTILITY FUNCTION DETECTION AND SCORING
The tool uses a pattern-based approach to detect utility functions from the contract bytecode. It scans for governance-related keywords (vote, proposal, governance) to detect governance utility, staking-related keywords (stake, reward) to detect staking utility, burn-related keywords (burn) to detect burn mechanisms, and fee/tax-related keywords (fee, tax) to detect fee mechanisms. It also detects owner/admin controls (owner, admin), mint capability (mint), and upgradeability (delegatecall with implementation). The utility score is calculated based on the number and type of utility features: governance (2 points), staking (2 points), burn (1 point), fee/tax (1 point). A score of 4+ is Strong, 2-3 is Moderate, 1 is Basic, and 0 is None. The risk level is calculated based on: mint capability (2 points), upgradeability (1 point), owner controls with low utility (1 point), and no utility (1 point). The AI receives all this data and is prompted to explain the token's utility in plain language — stating what the token actually does on-chain, what it can be used for, and whether it has meaningful utility or appears to be a memecoin. The AI is also instructed to state plainly what it cannot verify — that it analyzes on-chain functions and patterns, not the token's actual usage, off-chain utility, community adoption, or future utility development.
WHAT IT CANNOT SEE
This tool cannot definitively determine if a token has real utility — only reads on-chain functions and patterns. It cannot verify off-chain utility (e.g., governance participation, ecosystem access, real-world value) — a token may have utility that is not reflected on-chain. The tool cannot predict future utility adoption or token value — current utility functions do not guarantee future adoption or value. Legitimate tokens may have utility that is not fully encoded on-chain — some projects have off-chain utility that is not captured in the contract. The tool cannot detect if utility functions are actually used or operational — it can only detect their presence. The tool cannot detect if the token has been exploited or hacked. The tool cannot detect if the token is being used in a rug pull or exit scam. The tool cannot predict the project's future development or adoption. The tool cannot verify that the utility functions work as intended.
